GS wheels and disks. Are those disks the same diameter as GT or did you have to use GS fork legs too?

Like Richard, I think they look like J&R's but the ends are wrong. You have no history on them at all ?

Pic is how I got the bike from the PO.
Front end is from an 82 GS1100GK.
Wheels & rear brake are probably from a GS750.
PO thought the pipes were made by J&L.

I installed Progressive Suspension springs + lowering kit to get the correct ride height.

Have seen pics of pipes with tips that looked like these.
Don't remember where. Checked & I didn't save the pics or links.

Am probably going to switch to Omar/Jemco 3-into-1s.

Very interesting mix. I have a set of those disks and they are slightly smaller than stock and pounds lighter than any GT disks.

I have compared your pipes in that picture to a picture of my pipes when they were on a bike and yours are mounted further forward on what appear to be shortened stock headers and that requires them to have more of a kink at the rear which also looks better. According to some numbers I ran earlier, shorter headers should really improve those pipes compared to the longer more angular header that J&R supplied.

Do you have any more pictures that show the rear end of the pipes?

They may be J&R that someone modified slightly or possibly a later design from the same company

Posted two more pics of the headers on the other thread.

tz375, were you able to keep the center stand with the J&R pipes.

My bike has a center stand.
The PO used some custom parts machined from aluminum. Its a 1975 & he rebuilt the motor using 1972 carbs.
Looking at his other work, its credible that he may have modified the pipes.

"My" pipes were removed from the bike after the headers cracked up and were replaced with Bassanis. This bike is a 77 B model and it also has K type slide carbs. Who knew that two different people came up with similar packages.

I was going to fit a center stand to the bike and realized that the center stand brackets were ground off on the right side of the frame but I have no idea if that was for the J&Rs or the Bassanis.

My suspicion at this point is that the guy that built your bike knew what he was doing. The whole front end for example is matching parts and they represent an upgrade. The pipes are tucked in nice and tight and they work better with short headers so that suggests intentionality.

I'd love to see a dyno chart of your bike with those pipes and then with the Omars/Jemco 3 into 1. Where do we place our bets on the HP and RPM for each set up? :)

The smoke riders website recommended switching to the early carbs. The PO had a printout of their recommendations in his notes.
So there might be more bikes with this setup than we would expect.

I think the PO did a good work on the bike. Just needed a little more sorting when I bought it.
Front suspension & front brakes are a definite improvement over the stock setup on my other GT750.

The Omar/Jemco 3-into-1 will improve "coolness" but unfortunately the center stand will have to be removed.

I read that too and discounted it. The measured venturi area of a BS40 is slightly larger than a VM32 and allowing for the shaft and butterfly should be close in terms of air flow.

The only road test I could dig up for an L model seemed to suggest a quicker 1/4 mile time with BS40s than a K with VM32s so I doubt there is much in it. Clymer (or Chilton) has a performance section that suggests that a change to 34mm carbs will benefit the L more than a K but nothing to back that up. But they also claim that a Strader 3 into 1 makes more power than stock and we know the real story there.

I figure that the choice of slide versus CV carbs comes down to personal preference and "feel".

Zenshin 3-into-1 on a GT550.
Pics are of a bike in Japan -- were posted on the GS forum by a member that was there recently.
