Gt750 race track refugee
Tim and I have had this 750 knocking about in the work shop for ages. We've done bits and bobs over the last year, but when Tim found this lovely aluminium tank for a bargain price on ebay a couple of weeks back, it inspired us to crack on with it......
We plan to leave it naked, ie no fairing, and will be fitting a polished stainless 3 into 1 that we are making.....
We are pondering the Texaco Heron colours from the 70's, or maybe that pale blue and white that appeared on the race 750's back then...any suggestions are welcome.

Are those CMA wheels and an RZ350 aka YPVS front fender? Nice score. The tank looks good on that bike.
Blue & white looks lighter and cleaner but I suspect we all remember Bazza and Texaco-Heron colors best. I'd suggest Blue if the tank is polished and Heron if it's painted

Re: Gt750 race track refugee
Thanks for the input guys.....I'm not sure about the fender, it was one that has been in the workshop a good while, and we thought looked about right. I don't think it's an LC, though it is very similar...there are no metal fixings. Not sure about the wheels TZ, they were on it when we got it, but they will be staying. We were thinking of moving all the clutter under the seat, oil included, and maybe have the filler cap on top of the seat unit as per some racers we have seen. We also contemplated polishing a knee panel on the tank and painting the rest......

Re: Gt750 race track refugee
I know what you are saying there Moo...but on the other side, there is a hole for one of those rubber cable guides, so it's fitted correctly. We are moving slowly but surely. We have just sold a few parts that we don't need, like the oil tank, top yoke, instrument cluster and some Paioli head lamp ears.....and have a top yoke being cut, and have ordered some little 60mm clocks.
We have a 500 at about the same stage of completion too, so we are going to crack on with the pair together. It's looking like they may get painted in the blue and white......

Fender is on the right way round. Usually the small rear end is painted black so that it looks like a TZ250L fender. If it's a Power Valve (RZ) fender, it's plastic and has a stiff steel fork brace built in. They are arguably the best OEM fender out there and we use one on a TZ.

Re: Gt750 race track refugee
I noticed that you are running some K&N (or similar) round filters on there. What exhaust system did it come with, chambers? Reason I am asking is I am in the process of tuning my project bike that has the same filters and I am using some Jemco chambers. It would be great to know how the carbs are set up as far as pilot jets, needle positions and main jets. Would help a lot to give me some confidence in my own setup.
Any chance you can check how those carbs are set up sometime in the near future?
Here is what my setup looks like form the outside, very similar...

The bike came with 3-3 chambers....Allspeeds i think. It sounded lovely actually, but a bit too tame. We haven't been into the carbs yet, though obviously we will at some stage. I'll let you know what we find.

Excellent, I will appreciate that. As a reference I am running the following setup right now, but have yet to ride it like that (parts are being painted).titan performance wrote:The bike came with 3-3 chambers....Allspeeds i think. Pilot 47.5
Main 120
Needle Second from lowest position (with needle pointing down).
It ran well with the following setup that I tried first, but is too lean as indicated by coffee colored plugs.
Pilot 45
Main 115
Needle Second from lowest position (with needle pointing down).

Thanks Pete, Figured someone would know for sure. Cerhan McKay Automotive - not sure about the spelling though but I recall a dealership in Hamilton with a set of those back in the day plus a Robinson 4LS or was it 8LS brake. Too long ago and too many long dead brain cells to be sure.

Re: Gt750 race track refugee
I would prefer to fit a nice set of polished spoked rims really, but we have sold all the ones we had, and are struggling to get any more....bugger.
The cast wheels are a bit rough to be honest, I'm not sure if that's how they were supplied but I can't imagine what could have occurred to make them like that after manufacture.
What's the finish like on the ones you have Pete?
