Hi Eamonn,

If you intend to use the Suzuki helical primaries you will have no issues. I also have the NOVA straight cut Primaries and it runs on a needle bearing vice the Suzuki bronze bush. Inside the needle bearing there is an insert/spacer (the std Suzuki also has one) The NOVA version appears a smidgin too short and when you torque the retaining nut it pinches the inner basket against the outer basket and locks up inner to the outer (if I have explained it right ). A simple fix if the spacer is under size and NOVA will replace it. Failing that I have ordered up some 0.1mm shims which will solve the issue.

With the NOVA basket you will need to de-rivet the old helical primary. When I did it I ground off the head and used a punch to knock the old rivets out. CAUTION I also cracked the Suzuki basket around the rivet as I did so. Not so much of a problem as you have the nice NOVA basket to replace it. I would recommend drilling partway down through the old rivets so they can crush as you knock them through. When its apart you will see a set of cush drive rubbers, NOVA also sell these if they need to be replaced. There is also a full circle gasket (or cushion) which you need to re-use (although it might be available from Suzuki still). A worth while upgrade IMHO as on the race engine I have had no clutch slip, or drag.

That is great information I really appreciate that. I will use the standard gears for now. I have only had time to do one race meeting so far this year as I have been busy at work. Did the 2nd round of the Catalan on the Suzuki and finished 5th in my category not great but ok. I also raced the National classic championship on the 350 Bultaco as it was at the same circuit on the same weekend and got a surprise by finishing 4th, the level is much higher and the riders tend to be younger.

How has your season been so far this year?

Our season has been non-existent so far lol. As always "stuff" has intervened both for myself and Gary May who takes the Seeley out on track for me. Although the "cooking" engine was re-built after the melt down at Cadwell last year I really wanted to fit the "race" engine next so kept putting off entering any meetings until it was ready. The tuner, Graham File, then had some serious health issues (he had his heart Op only yesterday after waiting 9 months) and it has only just arrived home. Hoping we might be able to do the complete season with CRMC 500 A/C class next year (with spare engine). Got to sort the clutch and then take the bike to the dyno and get in a few test days. Maybe, just maybe, we can get to the last meeting at Brands Hatch in October (funds permitting)

We took the bike to the dyno on the 17th Aug. Apart from the fact that I arrived early, and then discovered I had left the Laptop behind which programs the HPI ignition resulting in a 3 hour round trip to go get it, we had a good day. We were almost sent down a rabbit hole when the engine just did not perform and we suspected the HPI ign. was playing up. Happily a new set of plugs brought it all back

Here is a dyno graph, the "red" trace is from the 34mm Carb "cooking" engine for a comparison. Not WOW type figures but it should result in a very strong and drivable bike. The atmospheric conditions were not optimum for power reading so on a cooler day we might had nudged into the 60 bhp region.

Geoff , have you thought of running 38mm carbs ? as Kevin with his race 750 engine is getting over 40hp per cylinder with the 38mm VM carbs .

I am running 38mm Mikuni VM carbs. This engine does not have a hot state of tune porting wise. There is a lot that can still be done but until I establish a reliable base line (after my previous engine failures) I am taking it steady. 40 bhp/cylinder is very impressive though, I would like to understand what Kevin has done to achieve this for the future development of my engine.
