My GT550 Café..
It started with a nice ´'76 GT125... fun but too slow.
then searched for a GT 550 and found 2 bad looking at a cheap price... then a complete restoration began. taking about 6 months.. The engine has not been opened yet. only carb cleaning and a new clutch..
it runs great.. Thanks for all the help this Forum, and for cool inspiration from other members.

Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.

Re: My GT550 Café..
Just read through your blog. Great bike you have there, a real inspiration for my own 550. That color looks really nice. I want to run dual discs on my 550 build as well. Are you still riding this one?

Re: My GT550 Café..
Hi Cragdog. Thank you very much.
Im still riding it... And constantly improving it
Right now, carbs are being rebuilt, homemade rear set, new softer saddle, rebuild ignition coils with a relay to control the power directly from battery... It newer stops
(I had to make a new account, as i could not remember my old password, and server didnt send me a mail )

Re: My GT550 Café..
Got any videos of it running? I'd love to hear it make some noise. Did you put the Jemcos on yet? Were they a direct fit or did you have to modify the foot controls at all?

Re: My GT550 Café..
I dont have any videos posted with the jemco's on, but there are a handfull on youtube from other 550's. The sound are more or less the same i guess.. The chambers fitted pretty well. But i did have some trouble with the exhaust gasket flange on the pipes, like the pipes would only make contact at the top of the pipe in the exhaust port. I will cure this problem with a little grinding, to make it fit 100%.
I also had a little 'kickstarter to exhaust contact'.. But foot controls were clear..

Re: My GT550 Café..
You got your old account back!
Gorgeous picture, one of my favorite 550's I've seen I think, those new pipes look great. Looks like you're missing a caliper tho
You're making me want to spend more money than I can afford to get mine looking as good!

Re: My GT550 Café..
Most of it is just hard work. Home painting and polishing parts. Most expensive parts on the bike is the chambers and a crank rebuild i was lucky to find 2 550 wrecks (almost), and got them very cheap. The Parts that i didnt use i just sold to finance new parts..
