75 GT550 Blue Smoke Devil

Post by ctluba »

Took some better pics today and a little vid. Cold start, sounds like crap, all three firing when I went down the street. Wanted to take a better vid when she was warmed up, but I can only do that once a week or the neighbors will scalp my ass!!!!!!

I had to pay my 10 year old daughter to hold the camera, $5.00, "dad, your such a geek".

I'll bet the neighborhood likes the GT550 as much as you do.

Thanx guys,

The front end is off an 06 gixxer 750. The rear end is off an 02 SV650. (If I recall correctly, the front end may be 04).

I assume the frame is still the original? If yes, were the forks & swing arm a straight fit, or did you have to make some mods?

The front end is bolt on with all balls conversion bearings. For the singarm I had to grind some material out to fit the swinger in the frame. Also had to get some bushings to bring the stock swingarm bolt up to the size of the swingarm hole. A bandit swingarm is actually narrower than the GT frame, so a little easier of a conversion.

Well I put the new floats in yesterday. Went out in the garage today and no fule leaking from the overflow. 1 kick and she fired right up on all 3 cylinders. Took a rip down town, runnin real well, nice and cracklly!!!!!!.

Actually spent a couple minutes cleanin her up tonight. Nice thin coat of gun oil on the chambers, little carb cleaner to take the chain splatter off the swinger.......

Sounds good. I think the dog dislikes it as much as the neighbors probably do. :)

Couple questions

What bars are you running?
Are those Jemco chambers?

Thanx SD,

The bars are pro taper fatty bars. I grabbed them used off ebay for like 40 bucks. I think they run around 65 or 70 new. Yes, those are Jemcos. Great pipes, great price, love them!!
