Custom GT500 project (Drøn's random question thread)
I have been meaning to do this thread for a while since I am slowly working my way through the GT500 to make it my own.
This thread will not showcase numerous ingenious solutions and modifications, but I decided to make to have one place to all my noob questions.
This my first bike. I have full time school and even fuller time small kid so not much time to wrench. I am a student with no budget. I want to be able to use the bike all throgh the process. So I have all the preconditions for failure lined up.
Anyways this is what I have:
And this is the direction I have in mind:

Re: Drøn's random question thread
So far I have refurbished the controls and added Kawa levers. And I have lowered the headlight and gauges.
And then I have a nice taillight in the working.
Photos of everything to follow.
Top of the list right now is expansion chambers though. I have cheekily inquired Titan Performance about a discount and awaits the answer.
Now for the first two questions to stick to the purpose of this thread:
1. Are there any drilled rotors that are a direct(ish) swap? Ie bolt holes, diameter and thickness is the same and off set is easily obtained with a set of spacers.
2. K&N filters. should I go with single pods or a big oval one with two flanges? Would the be any difference?
Thank you everybody

By the way; I have documented some of the minor steps so far on my little blog here: http://makesaman.blogspot.com/search/label/GT500" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

K&N's can cause jetting problems. The preferred filter is UNI foams.

Okay. How do they make jetting problems? Uneven airflow? It sounds a bit strange.ja-moo wrote:K&N's can cause jetting problems. The preferred filter is UNI foams.

JA-moo, that's what I always believed but my dyno guy recently told me that he finds UNI filters to be restrictive. Of course I don't have a frame of reference for his comments. Maybe that's his experience on say big twins or something.
Next time I head to the dyno I must remember to try the bike with and without filters.

Well, I will take a bit more restriction (if there is) over not being able to get a motor to run clean.tz375 wrote:JA-moo, that's what I always believed but my dyno guy recently told me that he finds UNI filters to be restrictive. And Dron, the flat hard backs of the K&N's causes badly timed reversion waves in the intake system, messing up the carburation. I'm not saying all cases, but enough to just not bother with the K&N's.

What's the best/cheapest place to buy Uni filters in the EU/UK area?

I did, but couldn't find anything but some moped store in Sweden that only have too small flange sizes. Nothing in UK, nothing in Germany... My google skills suck apparantly.ja-moo wrote:I wouldn't know, I would just do a internet search.....drøn wrote:I see. thanks a lot.ja-moo wrote:And Dron, the flat hard backs of the K&N's causes badly timed reversion waves in the intake system, messing up the carburation. Re: Custom GT500 project (Drøn's random question thread)
Thanks a lot everybody! Enough about air filters to get me started.
The news are that I just ordered chambers, yay! And my taillight is almost done.
Anybody know about drilled rotors? Should I just drill my own old one?
