it's 4mm low at the sprocket - adjustable rear engine mounts will correct that.

daft idea #1 - turn the T595 coolant expansion tank into the 2T oil tank so it fits under the seat and out of the way.

Buy a long-reach alloy wheel valve off the worlds favourite auction site........

Image

cut off threaded end where valve core fits..........

Image

drill several holes in the tank (1 for the valve, 1 for the hex key) and attach.........

Image

plug the hole for the hex key insertion and the hole where the coolant pipe originally attached and it's done.

in situ...............

and the outlet.............

whilst I await the manufacture of the rear upper engine mounts, I turned my attention to the induction side of the motor.
There isn't a great deal of space afforded by the T595 fuel tank and the standard T595 airbox wont fit the GT750 carbs because the
spacings are way out. I tried a GT750 L/M/A/B airbox but that was way too big and wouldn't even fit between the frame rails.
So then I tried a GT750 J/K airbox but again, too big.
The only option left was to fabricate something similar to the "pancake" air filter unit fitted to the early BSA and Triumph triples.

Starting with a fit-for-scrap later version GT750 airbox............

Image

and adding a touch of angle grinder fitted with cutting disc........

Image

and a bit of trimming...........

Image

left me with the component parts........

Image

to make this "slimline" induction filtration unit.........

Image

off to the welders it goes........

rainy day here in North East England, so I spent a couple of hours staring at this.............

Image

which prompted me to do this to the T595 Daytona wiring loom I purchased off ebay......

Image

top left - redundant wiring for my "spare-wire" box

top right - waste bin fodder

bottom - super-light T595 harness.

the remains of the T595 harness, loosely draped around the frame before I get around to taping it up.......

Genuine Triumph fuel tank gasket.............

Image

used as a template for a water-jet cut blanking plate........

Image

the aluminium plate is to be used to blank off the side of the fuel tank that should have this fitted......

Image

but seeing as the GT750 motor doesn't require a fuel pump or a pressure regulator, or a feed and return fuel line coupling,
I can replace all that with a single, horizontally-mounted single outlet fuel tap (with internal filter fitted) and an in-line "dry-break"
fuel line coupling to ease tank removal.
There will be no "reserve" fuel facility - instead I will be relying on the lo fuel light.

Off to ebay now to find a suitable tap................

a bit of easy work whilst I await the upper rear engine mountings arrival.

Modifying the top upper rear motor mount...........

Image

Image

Image

cutting and threading the the top rear (long) and back lower (short) lateral bracing bars / engine mount support rails..........

Image

fitted in the "mule" frame.......

Image

Image

Image

and the Steam Trip's rolling chassis..........

Image

once the engine mounts have been fabricated and attached to the rails, they will then be welded in place.

A mate reckons it needs some white to compliment the other colours, so.........

although it does blush when aware of the camera.........

here's the modified fuel outlet.............

Image

now a tap (a NOS I found in the garage) that neatly solves the filtration problem.........

Image

and saves me having to buy a dry-break fuel coupling

It's almost as if Triumph had an inkling that this conversion would happen in later years as they very thoughtfully
welded brackets onto the left and right sides of the sub frame............

Image

Image

with holes spaced just right to allow the fitment of an Electrex GT750 reg/rec unit.......

Image

and not only that - they also put air vents in the tail piece to allow cool air to pass over the reg / rec.......

Image

bless 'em..........

the rear / upper engine mounts...........

Image

Image

eccentric mounts allow engine position to be finalised before making the fixed position rear / lower brackets.
