Wow, that's really starting to take shape! You work pretty quick. It took me years to get to that point on my rebuild.

after having an oil leak from the bottom crankcase i just couldn't fix - it was on the bump that the sludge trap screws to, so obviously been up the road on its side at sometime - i decided to bite the bullet and change the bottom crankcase. yes, i did the grinding paste thing with it. anyway, i took the barrels off and the backs of both pistons were scored - no oil getting to them. the right little end was burnt and dry. so i ran the oilpump off the tacho drive with my battery screwdriver and [a] no oil coming out of the 2 right hand oil pipes, and very little out the left 2. changed the oilpump and still the same, so changed the oil pipes - perfect. hung them up and no drips. rebuilt engine with new bits where they were needed, ran it up to temp a few times and stripped it again. pistons now ok, little ends oily, inside crown of piston slightly oily, but liquid, so the crowns of the pistons aren't getting too hot. all in all a success :D while it's stripped i'm gonna fit a newly rebuilt crank and that engine should be spot on. btw, i turned the oilpump about 3mm past the mark, so it would in theory deliver more oil. seems to have worked a treat. that's it for now, as paintwork not yet finished.
cheers, dd.

i'm back - what d'yer mean oh no? anyway, finally got the rebuilt crank back after a big argument with the rebuilders, as i thought £90 was extortionate just to change one middle seal - which i supplied. not happy, but paid up grudgingly. got back home and rebuilt the engine, checking and double checking everything i did. fitted it in the frame and connected all the ancilliaries up. she started and ran perfectly after torquing the heads down to 20 lbs/ft. this has 0.3mm copper head gaskets fitted btw. i've had her up to temp half a dozen times and she sounds sweet and crisp. on advice from another 2t forum, i upped the pilot jets one size and the main jets a lot. up to 170's, due to the spannys fitted. i decided to do the paintwork myself - big mistake, and it's still not finished. i have been doing other projects in the meantime, including a fantic k roo engine and converting a gt250 engine to reed valve, which has taken most of my time up. hope to get some photo's posted up sooner than later :D

Don't forget that bit bud. Your lady wife won't.
Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.

fortunately for me, my other half loves the smell of spray paint :D also fortunately for me she hasn't noticed the filters in the extractor hood [or should that be bonnet?] think that will be the job for today, telling her the filters need cleaning :D
