You have my complete sympathy. I have spent more time trying to make a seat and base from scratch than any other job on my resto so far. Its a nightmare to do well. I too have vowed never to do it again. Next time I will give it to someone else to do.

first fix engine rebuilt with all new bearings, seals and gaskets. converted the rm250 kickstart to fit the ts250, so now it's time to start fabbing the exhaust

This is my other T500......the baby, only had this one 39 years !
It's a bit of a work in progress really, a little bit thrown together to get to last year's TT. I want the extra frame bracing, and an exhaust system like my Alpina 500.

....and just for fun, my 74 Kettle. Recently acquired a Piper 3-1, so I may just fit that for the heavenly sounds !

This was my first custom I built while at university. It is a '74 GT250 with a T350 top end bolted down. I had to over bore it at 1.5mm over so it calculates out to a GTT333 I wanted to just call it L/3.

The extra cc's it had over the original 250 really helped the torque department.

What was that pipe off originally? Looks almost like an RG250 pipe but it's probably larger.

cut it at the first baffle cone. welded a shortened 60mm - 48mm reducer [o.d.] and made the rest up to the exhaust port
tried an rgv to start with, but it was too oval for me to work with. tail pipe off the rgv though

2nd fit and much better time to start getting the forks in order. rg250 fork legs, gt550 yokes milled out to 36mm and gt250 front wheel with twin discs. i've got the brake calipers, just need some discs the right size

It may just be the photo, but it looks like there's a huge step between the header and chamber. Might be an idea to replace the horizontal section with a cone to eliminate the step. The chances of all teh tapers and lengths being ideal are unlikely, but a step will probably hurt performance.

What are you planning on doing for a side or center stand?

hi tz, somebody else said that, but in reality it's just the angle i took the photo at i'll try and explain. the header pipe is 48mm o.d. the first baffle cone is 60mm o.d. to join them i've got a 60mm to 48mm reducer, very short, but it gently tapers about 10mm in length from one o.d. to the other, so i was hoping that would be enough? suppose only time will tell. until i get my milled out fork yokes back i can't put the front end together and try the engine - only then will i know if it's worked
hi jab, the centrestand is fitted already. if i had some help and someone to lift the back end for me, i could release the centrestand and see how it sits in its 'relaxed' state unfortunately, i'm on my own, so until the front end is on i can't release it. bike is finely balanced at the minute. don't know whether you can see it in this photo? but there's a gt250 swingarm hanging on the front end to keep it down for now. oh, for an apprentice keep the comments coming, i'll try and answer or argue against them asap

If you are interested in a side stand, it might be possible to come up with one that won’t cause a cornering clearance problem.

I have a GT380 mix-and-match build and was able to solve the cornering clearance problem.
