hi jab, thanks for the input. the 2 ideas i had were: make a 10mm spacer between the sidestand bracket and the frame bracket and bolt the sidestand on, just to see where it sits. if it's too low i'll bomb that idea. :D
or, i've got a spare frame bracket off a hacked up old frame, and i thought of welding it on much further towards the front - on the same frame rail. i've already got another crossmember to go under the engine, so it could butt up against that and weld there, as well as being welded to the bottom [main] frame rail. so it would definitely be strong enough :D
yet again, unfortunately i can't try that until i strip the bike down again, ready for powdercoating. i'll measure how much the spanny sits below the main frame rail and see if it will tuck in nicely or stick out - then back to square one :D i suppose i could always alter the sidestand bracket, so the sidestand opens the opposite way and weld the frame bracket on the right side of the bike. so, it would have a right hand sidestand, but where's it say you can't? decisions, decisions :D
cheers, dd.

My strategy was to get the side stand pad & tab to be behind where the exhaust starts to kick up.

I tried a 73 GT250 side stand bracket & its bolts up to the GT380.
So you can use a T500 bracket & do something similar with your GT250 frame.

tbh jab, i think it would be easy enough to make one. it's only about 5mm plate with an extra bit welded in the middle for the bolts. i suppose what i could do is take the exhaust off, fit the sidestand and see if i can get the exhaust back on. hmm, sounds a bit irish to me :D i've got a t500 frame on the yard, so i'll have a look at the bracket tomorrow morning when it's light. 9 o'clock at night here and pitch black :D . i'll get back when i've sorted something.

right, after wandering round with my torch and looking at the t500 bracket, it's exactly the same as the 250. so, i think the easiest option will be to weld my spare bracket on further up the bottom frame rail. it should fit in nice and snug, but the arm on the sidestand itself will need lengthening. easy job. harder job is making a new gearchange lever to fit over and round the spanny. gonna start that in the morning :D unfortunately with clip-ons fitted, when my feet are on the footrests they point downwards, so need to sort that first :D

DD, can you shorten your feet? Try smaller shoes so they don't scrape the ground?

That will be a pretty cool Kwakazuki. Are you going to go with the ramair motor or the normal style one?

Looking smart so far. Charming mug you have there. I wonder if I could fit that slogan on the bottom of my number-plate. :D
