Just getting started on my 1974 t500 what's the best oils for crankcase and injection? Been using Maxima in my RD 400 no problems. Got a old clymer service manual they call out .134 (3.40) btdc is that still ok?
It's super clean stock bike on fence keeping that way or cafe it out. Thanks boys,

I'm sure there are some who will chime in with an opinion (snicker). But I'll offer my $0.02 worth.
Almost any modern 2-stroke oil made for injection is better than almost any oil from 40+ years ago.
For the transmission, I prefer using a gear oil designed for use in transfer cases. I avoid the motor oils and any gear oil with friction modifier additives.

Well my 2p as opposed to 2cents worth (cos I'm a Brit lol)
I use Rock Oil road mineral two stroke as in my opinion that's what these old buses where designed to run on 50years ago plus my 750J definatley does not like modern semi synthetic oils at all. For the gear box/clutch I use (as recommend by Suzuki) Millers classic 20/50 motor oil which doesn't have the detergents that modern oils have but any bog standard 20/50 should be good. I don't get any gear or clutch issues using this and the gear change is as smooth as any bike of the era and a lot smoother that other classics I've ridden using more modern oils. I wouldn't use a pure gear oil as this may cause all sorts of clutch problems with the clutch sharing the oil with the gearbox on our bikes.

Those jap bikes are rubbish they won't last five minutes son, get yourself a nice Royal Enfield!
