got a call today to say the rear footrest mount modifications were complete, so off I went to collect the frame. The rear footrest and silencer mount have been removed, saving at least 10kgs of weight, and the front footrest mount triangulated so............

Image

much neater - much lighter.

Back home in the garage, I fitted the front and rear ends then test-fitted a spare motor to see if all the newly attached engine mounts lined up................

Image

they did - perfectly  Just the upper rear mounts to make now I can get the exact measurements for them.

Left-side footrest mount.........

Image

sits just right and well away from the rear shock line - result :D

and the exhaust ports.............

Image

clear of the frame tubes - just as Suzuki designed them to be.

I am still a bit concerned that the motor doesn't "fill" the frame fully. Tomorrow I am going to fit the front fairing subframe and attach the side covers to see if they close the gap.
Otherwise, it's looking like a supercharger............. :D

Don't worry about "filling" the frame. Besides, superchargers don't work very well on two-strokes anyway.

If you stroke it more than twice; you're playing with it.

Too many bikes, too much time, ENOUGH SPACE, FINALLY! Never enough money.........

Explain to a rookie why this is? In my inexperience I expected turbochargers to cause problems due to increasing exhaust backpressure but superchargers, not restricting the exhaust, would work better in most scenarios. educate me please.

Also cool update Garry. Have you any idea what type of supercharger you might use?

The main thing i could think of the supercharger creating a problem would be with the bottom end seals , they are not designed to retain much psi , i know even when doing a leak down test it is suggested to use not much pressure more pressure than 5~6 psi . But with most things .. if there is a will there is a way . Trains use superchargers on there 2 stroke diesels .
the older i get the faster i was

yes, that makes sense. It would apply to any type of FI then, not just superchargers.

Weren't some of the 2 stroke Detroit diesels supercharged?

guys - the supercharger comment was a reference to comments made earlier in the thread - I think SuzukiDave and TZR made the same observation in fun

The gap is as it is and will stay that way. I did notice that on the other side of the motor, the thermostat housing adds height to the head and fills most of the gap - maybe I should graft a false housing onto the left side?

I think that the gap will look terrible. Maybe time to cut up the frame and raise the motor and maybe lower the tank and seat at the same time....

How is that coming along? Shorter motor would allow you to move the swingarm pivot forwards and fit a longer swingarm.

Fitting a supercharger would be easier. :? Keep having fun.

been struggling to find a home for the battery, as it's usual place has been taken by the 2-stroke oil tank. But tonight, I had a Eureka moment, so it was out with the marker pen, drill and files..........

just a bit of cutting and grinding to do on the underside of the swing arm to get the battery box to sit flush

Put a pair of false breasts in the gap.
No one will notice that there should be anything else there - or not.
Less setting up than forced induction and won't affect the intake suction.
Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.
