Project "Custom 1972 GT750"

Post by Zook-e »

I am going to do a custom GT750 using a 72 as my basis. The following are with two different tanks. I had originally thought to use a GS1100G tank (5 gallons) for the idea of longer range after porting. But now the 72 tank looks much better to me. And maybe just a fun fast bike.

What do you all think?

A front and rear view of the bike. It has an RF600 front end with 3.50 wheel and RF600 rear wheel that will be in a shortened GS1100 swinger with Ohlins shocks.

The rear has a 5.5" wheel.

The front of the seat will be cut off and it will be moved up a small amount. With the 1100 tank I will have the have about 1 1/2" risers added to the bars to help clear the tank for lock to lock

Anyone got a good set of GSXR shifter and brake assys?

Standard bars will pull me too much over the tank and it is not very comfortable. The clipons let me set more comfortable on the bike. Helibars are way toooooo expensive and I am just going to get an extension welded to the existing bars.

The bars are replaceable only the mount needs to be modified.

Eric,
How about a set of risers and 1.125" fat bars to match the chunky tank.

That's a great looking tank which will tend to dominate the appearance. It works well with the forks and wheels. the seat will take some work to blend in with teh overall look, but it's got potential.

That could turn into a great looking custom.

I think I like the big tank.

If you stroke it more than twice; you're playing with it.

Too many bikes, too much time, ENOUGH SPACE, FINALLY! Never enough money.........

Your bar idea is nice. I like the looks of what you did. But the tank being so long makes it a stretch with handlebars. So for me clipons are the way to go.

The seat front will be cut off and narrowed at the front to match the tank. I also have a radiator with the cap welded to the left side sort of like the TR750s.,

Some mild bracing under the tank, behind the radiator and by the swinger is being done to the frame.

Can't wait the get the swinger back.

So everyone knows I am going with the majority and using the GS1100G tank like I had wanted to at first.

Sometimes if you try too many ideas it can complicate things.

Thanks for the help on this guys.

Err....

Sorry Dave, I was stripping the forks again for a new idea that just developed and I finally worked out the best way to use GS gears so the motor is coming out again, and what was it you were saying?????
