V4 RGV500

Post by garry55 »

as you may have noticed, progress has been halted on the XR11/73 project as I am now making a determined effort to get my V4 RGV project up and running. We completed the motor build on Friday and have now got it fitted back into the chassis.
On with sorting the wiring now, whilst I await delivery of new throttle cables, water pump kit, plugs and caps. The carbs are away being cleaned and re-jetted to suit and the fuel tank is away being modded to take twin fuel taps. The "temporary" exhausts have been blasted and painted and are ready to fit. Hopefully it will all come together by the time I return from vacation in mid-July. Who knows - it may even work! :D

a bit more tinkering - fitting the 2 stroke oil tank

and a couple of gratuitous pics after I removed the radiator (gone for welding)

That is a SWEET project Garry. Where did you get the V4 engine? That isn't just a bored out 250 is it?
That water pump looks very familiar to me....I grew up with boats and it looks like a bilge pump....should give you lots of GPM's though.

It looks like a pair of RGV250 or Aprilia RS250 motors snuggled up together which is hardly a trivial task. The water pump looks like Davis Craig from the land downunder. That's what's going on my next GT750 project.

the motor is 2 RGV250's joined togethr to make a V4.
the water pump kit came from here

http://www.bdkraceeng.co.uk/Electric%20 ... p%201.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

its not cheap, but does have programmable upper and lower temperature settings which increase / decrease flow proportionally.

its starting to get serious now - new plugs, plug caps, 12 exhaust gaskets and a fine selection of coolant hoses to try..........

Image

just had time to fit all the plugs and top plug caps before work..........

Image

more hoses to collect tomorrow so may be able to plumb it all in this week. :D

What a cool project Gerry and a one of a kind :up: it is something to have the only one in the world . What silencers are those as i like the mounts instead of being slipons and then clamped .

they are cheapie-Chinese ones off ebay - bought for testing purposes only (as are the pipes) - they will all be replaced with pukka gear if / when its proven to work. I have been warned not to run the motor for too long with these fitted as the baffle tube is only 20mm diameter. Have to agree - the flanged mounting is vastly superior to the usual "slip-on" method.
