We had cut a $$$ corner by having used rims powder coated black. That didn’t work out really well — the oven did a job on the rims & we didn’t get the wheels as straight as they should be.
Lesson learned! We upgraded to new black Sun rims from Buchanan’s. Cafe-GT250-2227 by jabcb, on Flickr

Question: how thick are the spokes? They look thick enough to support a behemoth but that may be an illusion. I found over the years that even large heavy bikes (relatively speaking) don't need thick spokes.
Have you looked at rims from Mike's XS? I have used a few on different builds and they are not quite as nice as Sun or Excel but are way cheaper and quite adequate for the task. Even old Borrani and Akront rims used to have a bit of a jog where they were joined but it's not noticeable on the bike.
My mechanic/friend that helps me with the collection owns the bike. He got a sweet job in Florida. Ended up splurging on a few upgrades before the bike gets shipped there.
Those are polished stainless steel spokes by Buchanan’s. Looks great & won’t tarnish like old stock spokes do in Florida.
Mikuni VM28 carbs were ordered. Those will be installed before the bike heads south.
I’m really slow at these builds — it’s a retirement hobby. And typically spend much more $$$ than I should. Certainly more than is justified too.
He wanted black rims. Originally thought about the MikesXS rims for the GT250 build but he ended up going even cheaper with powder coated used rims — that worked out badly.

It appears that scheffers' account has been hacked and a post about betting put on. He hasn't posted since 2015, so as it was out of context, I deleted all his posts (I can't just delete the offensive one) and as the account is compromised, I'll email him and change his password to one that only I know. He should be able to reply to the email if he wishes, and we can set him up again. I will be surprised if he replies after 8 years though. We'll see.
Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.
