Hi Dave D,

I was getting anxious to hear it run too...I finally got it going yesterday morning and it sounded great in the crisp 7am air. My wife came flying out of the house in her robe asking if I was crazy...I thought I showed great restraint waiting until 7...

A noticeable difference in the way it sounds compared to last year. I'll start packing up tomorrow, get the trailer loaded Thursday and leave early Friday getting there around 9:30a. Looking forward to seeing you and Matt there. Hopefully Doug will be there too and Im sure he will want to check it out. :D 8) 8) 8)

Hi Dave

Only a tiny drip on the RH side outer edge. I didnt get as much copper spray out there as I should have and Im at the limit of the 8mm bolts. I used 2 oz of Bars Leak and it seems to have done the trick.

I finished off the air-shifter lines this morning and the system is holding 100 psi for over 1 hour.

No issues with the inserts but I made sure they were perfectly concentric to the bore. I assembled the head, copper gasket and block together (upside down) so I could see everything. Then, installed the block assy onto the motor. I wanted to have the head aligned and pinned to the block but we ran out of time.

I have no idea what kind of power the setup will produce yet. The only thing to watch for is that the RH spark plug interferes slightly with the stock coolant line. I think you have a different radiator setup so it shouldnt be a problem for you. After the Martin MI race, I plan to install the RM65 radiator which will give me the clearance I need.

Kevin , what kind of total weight did you get the bike down to ? Do you change rear tire pressures to change grip or is there pretty much a set pressure ?

It should be just over 352 lbs. The tire pressure is important...too much and the tire spins off the line...too little and it hurts your ET. There is a sweet spot for the tire pressure and the only way to find it is to record your cold pressure, track temp, air temp and ET. Im sure there are many other factors too but Im still learning. The duration of the burnout will make a difference by raising the tire temp and pressure too but its also important to get the tire to hook up at the launch. A burnout will help the tire stick better but certainly adds a few variables. Mine was between 8 and 9 psi last year and I didnt burnout before each race. Until the Norwalk race, my tire hadnt slipped off the line. The conditions last October at Norwalk were not ideal. It was cold and I understand they tried a new track prep that many of us had trouble with. Martin and Indy are prepped very well and I remember sitting at the starting line hoping my boots would stay on my feet when I launched. I guess trial and error and good record keeping will keep you in a narrow band that the tire likes and will help keep consistent ET's

Well with the engine and cooling system alone running around 150+ lbs you have done good lightening the rest of the assembly . A dyno run before race day sure would be nice to give her a shake down . are you going to have the EGT system mounted up ?

That's looking good Kevin.

With more power I guess that will add some new variables for this year. More things to learn and to adjust for.

I guess you have a pretty comprehensive record system now of all the atmospheric and other variables. We use a simple record for road race bikes and weather is always an issue for us to keep jetting on the right side of the edge.

When is the first race of the season? Is it this weekend already

R, first race is this weekend. The bike is all done and I am sorting through what I want to take. I'm going through my spare parts and will probably take a complete clutch assy. I'm organizing the tool box and have set aside all the fluids etc.

D, i had the EGT assembled on the bike and took it back off. I am fairly confident I am still rich on the mains but not by too much. I'm probably within one or two sizes up. I was interested in trying some of the oxygenated fuels from VP and that would put my mains closer to the edge. I dont have smaller jets right now so I will have to go with what I have. I might have more dyno testing done between Martin and Indy and will put the EGT on for that.

Sounds like you may have a bit more trouble hooking up this year...

If you need any spare engine parts, help yourself to what I have...

I also have a box of misc jets, needles, and tubes that you are welcome to take with you if they are the right type...

Hey Tom... thank you very much for all your support and aid along the way. It seems whenever I am in trouble needing a part, you are right there to help! I am glad you moved here to Medina and we've become friends. Its nice to know there is another 2-stroker so close by. I am loading the bike up tomorrow night so if you want to stop by Thursday after work, I'll be here and happy to fire it up one more time before leaving. Thanks again for offering to open up your garage to help me when my water pump failed. I cant tell you how much I appreciate it.
