ordered a new rear shock for this project, so set about renewing the rear suspension bearings. This is the rear shock lower mounting bearing and sleeve - in need of lubrication ?

out with the old.............

Image

and in with the new...........

Image

that's the suspension bearings taken care of - awaiting replacement wheel bearings now.

then the VJ23 headlamp / clock set mounting bracket and fairing stay bracket arrived from Japan so, after much messing about getting it all to fit the GSX-R frame, I did a test fit with the LS nose cone..........

Image

liking the look of the fairing, so I replaced the LS nose cone with the blue / black / white one and added the r/h side fairing............

Image

Image

think I will go with that - may have to replace the TR750 seat unit though.

Riders eye view............

with rear wheel, hugger and fairing tail panels in place..........

Image

I had to cut the fairing tail panel in half to get it to fit the fairing sides - this is the gap it leaves..........

Image

it's a wide old engine is the GT750

VJ23 coolant header tank fits snugly though......

left as they are at the moment Dave - the bike is a test mule for some ideas and is constantly evolving, so no point in making it look pretty just yet.
Most of the XR11 features I wanted to incorporate (race seat, fairing, forward facing calipers etc) have now been replaced / upgraded.

question - the frame I have used for this project (Suzuki GSX-R400 GK73A) uses the original 4-stroke motor as a stressed member, attaching to the cylinder head and barrel (jug?) via solid mounts in addition to the 2 rear engine mountings. The frame, as standard, does not incorporate a separate engine cradle.

As I am rubber-mounting my GT750 motor, and attaching it at the rear with 2 engine mountings but only one (substantial) cylinder head mounting at the front, do you think this will compromise the structural integrity of the frame?

Discussions I have had with several friends have so far elicited a 50 / 50 yes and no response.

Early TX motors were rubber mounted at teh front and solid mounted at the rear. On those, the upper, rear mount tore out of the crankcase around the tacho drive. The lower rear was fine on the motor but cracked and tore frames at the rear mounts.

Will the motor crack or the frame? 50/50 chance but one will crack over time - and that's the thing. How many cycles will it take and how often with teh bike be run hard enough to vibration crack it?

Either find a way to attach a cradle of some sore or rubber mount the upper front mounts to allow it to move around.

I have thought about that also Garry with my transplant with the GSXR 750 engine hard mounted into the frame . Seems Rosse with his 750 into a Yamaha frame hasnt had a problem . But like i did he did use a subframe .. so who knows ?
