Looking at the service bulletin that Suzuki sent out on this mod it seemed like they supplied different cranks and pistons for the mod. However, I believe the GT750 has this arrangement and the Wiseco catalogue lists the same pistons for both motors, so I am guessing that the small end is the same. Can the standard crank deal with a swapped arrangement? Any advice appreciated.
Hello Chris,

Try a PM to Pete O'dell with this question, he will know.

I'm looking to do twin discs on the GT550 A next on the list and have a twin disc Alloy GS550 front wheel. It should be OK with a disc left fork 750), but I'd like some better calipers if poss. I've been recommended a Bandit 1200 master cylinder too.

Hi all,

Chris has a Zeeltronics ignition set-up for his bike and I was interested in something similar. Because I am a lazy git and was put off by the need to develop your own rotor/trigger for the Zeeltronics unit I plumped for a Horse Power Ignition (HPI) digital programmable unit which comes as a complete solution.

Image

Of course I now have to buy a laptop so I can down load/up load the ignition curves :D

To add to life's complications I also bought this Triumph T140V which has had a load of upgrade work (engine & chassis) done to it. One day I might grow up and become a useful member of society

Currently in negotiations with Wiseco to get some special single ring racing pistons made. I need to buy these in batches of 12 so if anyone else is interested in coming in on the deal, let me know. Probably going to be .50mm OS but am willing to go bigger if someone else has a need for 1.00mm. They will have a higher ring than standard which opens up some opportunities for more "interesting" porting options.

Don't Wossner list pistons for the 500 and 750? Try Fast From The Past for a pair.

They may be twin ring though.

I used Wossners on my engine, they are 2-ring (or at least my ones were)

I will admit to have not built a T500 engine to racing specs since the mid-late'70's but we always ran a single ring and for racing applications where we were replacing them often due to our aiming for leaner mixtures for more power, we never saw any signs of bad things happening because we left the lower land empty. FWIW

PS. love your choice for HPI...not inexpensive but with full program-ability, a wise investment!

You will not regret using Wossners. They are small pieces of engineered art! I weighed my assemblies (piston, rings, wrist pins) and had very little work to do to make them identical down to .001gm! They are THAT good.

Thanks Jeff, the issue is not so much just dropping the bottom ring, but getting the top ring higher up on the piston to open up some extra porting opportunities, hence the need for some custom built units. We are talking to Wiseco now but will keep the Wossner option in mind if the current line of enquiry goes cold!

the old wiseco race pistons were dykes ringed but they never worked properly.

Chris why can't you lift the barrel with a spacer and machine top of barrel instead of moving rings??

Holy crap Pete, that's so blindingly obvious that we never considered it! Thanks, will look into that option too. Just waiting to see what Wiseco come back with.

Got into the shed over the weekend and cracked open the 2 engines I have here. Apart from a bent rod (which I knew about) both don't look in too bad condition. My main concern had been for the main bearings which are apparently impossible to obtain other than some very expensive replicas being made to order in England.
Anyway, one crank will be rebuilt here by Ray Easson and the other will be shipped to a specialist shop in England for some significant weight reduction and balancing. The plan is to have 2 motors, one in a milder state of tune and one more radical for "special" events.

Motor design is coming along nicely in the US with some very promising figures coming from the modelling. Looks like we have Wiseco onboard for a batch of some special one off pistons that are integral to the new design brief. The machining work for the multi-port barrels and trick heads we are hoping can be undertaken here in Perth. Steel has arrived for the somewhat extensive frame mods so that will be next on the list. Hoping for the Island Classic at Philip Island in January but this may be a bridge too far! By the time I get this on the track I'll be too bloody old to ride it! Trying to keep in shape riding these new fangled modern thingy's. Just got back from two days at Sepang riding a ZX10R.

Image

And who should I run into there but 2 time TT winner, Cam Donald doing some testing on a new GSXR1000 that he will be riding in the Malaysian Superbike Championships. Anyway, I digress...........

Hello Chris,

There were some complete crank bearing sets on eBay just recently, from japan. outside + centre bearings, crank pins and big ends + seals. These were not a one off and provided a complete crank re-build kit. They were way less in price than the bearings Pete Odell has in stock (in fact I believe he is investigating a bulk purchase). Pete had his made to special order and a limited quantity, hence the price he has to ask for them. All that were missing from the Japanese "kit" were con-rods. I posted the ebay link to Facebook but damned if I can locate it, when I do I'll send it to you.

Cheers Geoff

Hey, great find Geoff, thanks! I have an ebay search alert but these did not register on the radar, must only look for ads on ebay.au.
Now duly ordered.
