 I was very close to buying a 77. A completely restored one was for sale nearby for some time. It was a beauty, it was selling for nearly half of what I know the guy had into it. Last I checked, It was still available.

Definately 1 of the smoothest bikes of the day when cruising.

I think that paint scheme is the sharpest of all tank/pinstripe colors an any GT. But, I also think the pinstripe looks very stupid as Suzuki should have followed straight through with the pinstripe like they did with 76's. But, I guess that was their way of adding a new twist to the new and last model. Still a very sharp looking bike. I also notice in your picture that the front turn signals are of the earlier models. I thought most of the 77's had the newer GS "cone looking" turn signals ? Unless you opted for the earlier style signals ? If you're interested, I have those style front signals that came off my 76. I think someone along the line added them to my 76.

It appears to be a 1976 A model with that fender and indicators, but the tank stripe is a 77 B. I wonder if it was a transitional build at the end of the A run/beginning of the B run.

It has a build date of 6/75 so I guess it's a 75?? I traded my GT550 for it even up. Bad thing was the guy's cheese slid off his cracker and before we could exchange titles he was in jail for murder. Indiana was very ignorant to title laws so I rode it for YEARS as a GT550. I eventually purchased 4 more GT750 basket cases with titles.

I am not sure how the tank was switched and I guess I never will.

Being the build date is 6/75, it's a 76 with a 77 tank. I highly doubt Suzuki would put a 77 tank on a 76 model. I understand Suzuki did source past parts on 77 models. But, the tanks are pretty much the only thing that sets model years apart. I think the tank came from somewhere else. Not a big deal, that can be fixed.
