20+ years in a barn

T500J just aquired, history 5000miles, then stored, barns and sheds. Plan to clean it up cosmetically, grease it up where applicable, new oil and gas it up, add a battery and fire it up - just to see if it runs. Any real objections to this plan? It's an orphan without papers but I don't want to abuse it any more than its already gone through.

There doesn't seem to be bikes in the UK like that any more

Sounds to be worth a try, but the petrol often gums the carbs up when stood for such a long time, so it might not be quite as simple as your plans.

I found my T500 in a barn and it had been sitting for nearly 40 years. It wasn't stored properly but it was out of the weather. I cleaned the carbs, put in new plugs and a new battery, changed the oil and put fresh oil in the tank. It started on the 3rd or 4th kick. It smokes like the devil, but I haven't ran it long enough to really get it warmed up and burn out the old oil. I'm hoping the seals are OK, but I will soon find out. I did pull the cylinder heads to see if the cylinder bores had gotten rusty over the years. Not a bit of rust in sight! I was relieved and impressed. Good luck to you!
