Removing Water Pump Cover

I decided to tackle the water pump replacement today. After removing all the bolts I cannot get the water pump cover to budge. I know there are two locating pins which makes it more difficult, and the gasket seems to be stuck on with some heavy duty sealer. I'm afraid of damaging the cover and/or the engine casing if I use too much force. Any ideas?

The drain hole at the rear makes a perfect place to pry teh cover off gently.

Thanks! I used a dentist's mirror to check out the drain hole and there's actually a slot right next to it. I was able to get a flat blade screwdriver in there and gently pried the cover off. Now for the fun part

Good news & bad news. Bad news is that the impeller disintegrated while trying to pry it off. Good news is that I was able to latch a vice grips onto the broken impeller and using my trusty roof rack bar and a shackle as leverage the pump came out without too much fuss. Now to find a replacement impeller!

Crooks sells reproduction impellers - £25 plus shipping under their part number 17466-31001P.

This is exactly what mine did last week, but my pump wouldn't budge and I had to do the handy dandy case access hole trick to get the pump out. What a life saver!
I was lucky to find an impeller on fleabay and I ordered up a new pump. Maybe back riding this weekend! Good luck with yours!
