I removed the petcock & carbs on my 500K that has not been started in about 25 years to check for gunge and other issues. The petcock was totally filled with solidified gum and all the seals were rooted. No problems there...but...
I started to unscrew the main jet and the force I applied pushed the main jet (and the brass bit it screws into) into the carb. It did this with both carbs. I just slid the bits back to the lowest position. I was wondering is this normal? I last serviced a T500 carb in about 1975 so I don't recall if this was an issue back then.
If I haven't explained this clearly then I'll take a few photos of the bits and use bigger words.
Cheers

It sounds like the small washers under the main jet were missing. That's what stops the main jet and needle jet from sliding up into the carb

That's what it seems like. I'll find some thin washers and pop them in.
Thanks!
