Starter Motor Cover won't come off - update: problem solved!

Post by RING_DING »

This one has me baffled.....I can't get the starter motor cover off. It is loose and I can slide it slightly side to side, but it appears to be trapped somewhere along the front edge (right behind the barrels). You can see from the pic that I can lift up the rear edge, but no amount of pushing & pulling can get the front edge free. I'm afraid to use too much force as it seems to be pretty flimsy. Any advice appreciated!

Not to ask a stupid question but you did remove the other 2 bolts from the front of the cover? There should be 4 total. Can't think of anything else that could be holding you up.
No really... it's supposed to smoke.

Indeed yes...all 4 bolts are out. The cover is loose but I can't release the front edge from whatever is holding it in place.

Success! I disconnected the water hose from the thermostat housing and wiggled the cover out pushing from the right side.
