Hello, I'm back again with an update.
thanks to OJB I re-thought my seat plan and decided to take a stab at repairing what I had. As you can see I won't win any awards for welding but I did manage to make the pan solid. I patched the foam, (where there was some rodent damage) and I migged on some bend over clips to retain the new (Reproduction Decals) seat cover. I'm happy with the results and as she sits now I need a chain, mirrors and tires to complete the project.
Of course that only brings the bike to the state of safely rideable, running as well as I can possibly know until I'm actually out on the road and looking like a survivor, (not a restoration).
I'm sure running issues will crop up soon enough. But for now we are still firmly within winter's grip so road testing will wait.
Once again I need to thank this forum for all the help. I have searched numerous topics and found the help I needed. Most recently this included chasing stubborn air from my oil lines.
thanks everyone!

Thanks!
I'm back now to update things. As of last week my project is legally on the road. Actually the bike has been ready for a while, but I had a little trouble with the paperwork. The photo makes it look better than it really is; but I prefer original patina. The point is, another bike that would have probably been broken down for parts is now on the road, being enjoyed in it's (mostly) original state. And I do enjoy riding it. Very stable, very comfortable machine.
Once again, thanks to the members of this forum for the help.
