1968 Suzuki T20 X6 Hustler rebuild

Post by JasonXP »

My new obsession with vintage Suzuki two strokes has culminated with me picking up GT750, T500, and now T20 projects for restoration. Not interested in making a show winning or cosmetically perfect bike, just good riders I can enjoy.

The T20 was luckily recently running before seizing one cylinder and being disassembled by the PO so I think that's where I'm going to start.

I am missing a few parts from the engine, namely:
Entire clutch (both baskets, and the bearing/actuator)
One exhaust header pipe and collar
One piston (damaged when the motor seized)

The motor also bent a rod and damaged a cylinder but the PO already got a new rod and cylinder so it's just a matter of rebuilding the crank. I have a hydraulic press, any pointers on how to get the crank apart easy?

I can't seem to post pics easily, am I doing something wrong?

Thanks guys it's great to be a part of this forum!

Welcome to the forum.

Post your pics to a free pic hosting website — I use Flickr. Then include links to those pics in your posts here.

You should replace the oil seals when rebuilding the crank. I recommend you send the crank to a shop that rebuilds these old two stroke cranks.
I’ve had great results using Bill Bune: http://jtworldwide.net/billbune/services.html

Parts & service manuals are here: https://www.oldjapanesebikes.com/mraxl_ ... /index.php
Service bulletins are here: https://ozebook.com/compendium/techbuls/index.htm

Some parts are still available from Suzuki. You local dealer might have online parts manuals on their website.
Partzilla is an alternative that offers discounts: https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/suzuk ... crankshaft

eBay will be a useful source for a project like this.

Have fun.
