Tank decals

Post by Hush »

Is there a secret to getting the tank decal on right? My son has painted the tank and we have the correct decals for the 74 GT550 L but lining them up is tricky. :wth:

I used brochures & eBay pics of original 72 GT550 gas tanks for location clues.

This brochure shows how the decal lines up with tank bottom & seat chrome strip. Also look at how the decal lines up with the letters on the badge.

Hi there in NZ; if they're adhesive decals I've used a light misting of mildy soapy water on the tank to slide the decals into the right position and then gently use a small rubber blade to squeegee them in position. 8)

Yes after watching umpteen Youtube videos on fitting tank decals we understand a bit more of the process, he wrecked the first decal which cost $150 a set but then he found a local place that makes replicas for $60 a set so he's off to give it another go. Apparently the shed door was open when he was letting the clear coat dry and some dust must have got into it, when the decal went on it was full of tiny bumps he couldn't get out. Ah we live and learn. Good news on another front though, the side cover decals got here from the UK in record time so they can be placed.

My son tells me the soapy water trick made fitting the decals a breeze, I guess you only know what you know. :D

Nice colour.
Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.
