Hi,
I'm restoring a T500J...mostly trying for that original look.

I acquired a 1972 T500J front fender in bits (no bolts) and wanted to know what size bolts I should use. I think they were M5 Phillips head but I don't know what length. I'm guessing they would be 10mm long. Can anyone confirm?

Ta.

Geoff

Image I remember when had a nice fender like above. :(

There were two different size screws used originally like below.Timely subject. I recently searched the internet for some chrome plated ones like the originals but in a few searches did not find. I think I did find some chrome plated ones but not in standard sizes. I'll need to check and make sure I saved the website I found some on. You of course can just send non chrome plated ones along with your fender if you plan on having it re chromed. Small hardware store near me did not have them chrome plated but I did not check out the big box stores yet. Below is a conversion chart, sizes, etc.

You could use stainless if you want but stainless screws typically have larger heads......looks like those might be stainless screws on the fender assembly pic member GTandcbr posted.

Found this mob in the UK: http://www.mrmegapack.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

They do JIS bolts in zinc plated and stainless; the bolts aren't quite the right length but a mm or two isn't a problem. I can polish the stainless bolts to look like chrome.

I have a few non-JIS stainless bolts already on the bike and the heads don't look right. I'll ditch them and buy the JIS ones. I bought a set of JIS driver bits and find they fit the JIS bolt heads perfectly and can be used over and over without damaging the heads.

Cheers
