T250 Engine Rebuild

Post by markm »

Hi, question for the Kiwi's..any recommendations for getting a crank rebuilt and balanced in Auckland? Just sourcing parts now and will be starting on engine very soon when wallet recovers a bit. Conrods seem a challenge too, any suggestions or tips? Cheers

I've just had a T350 crank done by Mike Smythe at Davey motorcycles. Did a great job at a reasonable price. I bought conrod kits from Tony at red baron motorcycles in Auckland. Hope this helps. Cheers Grant

That's not a bad point to be starting from - looks like she's mostly there.

There's an active classic japanese bike group that is based in Auckland. They have some very experienced members and lots of knowledge of services in the local region. If you would like to make contact, PM me and I'll pass on the address for the co-ordinator.

Good luck with the project

Just a quick update, gathered all the parts now and lucky to have a choice of two cranks to play with. Here's the before will post the after when it's back. Hopefully give some updates on the rest of the engine build as I go and welcome any tips along the way....

Been a while since the last update, got sidelined with some unexpected health issues but back in business now and keen to get moving. Crank is back and looking great will post a picture soon. Another challenge now is to locate a decent left hand cylinder head like the one in the picture. Mine has a nasty crack and so a decent replacement would be better. Please let me know if anyone has one.

Hey Mark,

Apologies for not getting back to you after your PM a while back. I'm afraid that I have not come up with anything re the head you are after. Our local expert on such matters described the bit you are seeking as "rare" and couldn't think of where one might be. No one else I know has one either.

Any progress from your end?

Is that actually a T350?

There might be some options if you are up for shipping from the US or Europe.

Hi
Yep it's a 250, was told it's a TT250 or a GT250D depending on where it was sold. Apparently also known as the "parts bin special" as they were made with run out parts to get rid of 350 stock in the factory or so the story goes.
May have a lead on a head now, but keeping options open. See a lot of stuff on ebay from time to time but shipping is the killer of course to little old New Zealand.
Cheers

In the US the T350 had those angled cooling fins while the T250 had the straight fins.
The T350 head won’t fit your bike.

Per SuzukiCycles.com, they sold your bike as the TT250 in the UK & the GT250 in Japan.
So heads from those countries might be available.

Hey Mark,

Hope all is well. I just opened up Trademe this morning and there is a T250 for sale - same as yours and it's the gold colour. I note it has the heads you are after as well. It's a rusty old thing but could be great for parts for you as it seems to all be there. Currently at $550.
