Found some better engine covers that were worth polishing up:
Also eventually got hold of some good hubs which were polished up and laced to new old stock rims:
Also, after an age got some dent and scrape free exhausts that worth the (considerable) expense of re-chroming, the headers are Delvick stainless steel aftermarket parts that have been polished up.
Made a new brake linkage assembly (rod and rose joints) in stainless steel all nicely polished
So finally, after nearly 6 years it finished!!
