Managed to get the 20 odd year old Hi-Tec tyres off the GSX550 Katana wheels yesterday (with bfo tyre levers - ooh me poor fingers!) And a couple of hammers pliers ( to get tge tube valves tgrough the 'rims'. Bearings out so now need to check stock to see what I actually need, then get the wheels powder coated before bearings are fitted , of course.
Found out that the 'plate' for the electrics was missing, so bought 2 - as the plate on the 550B is missing too! The list of stuff for the powder coater is getting bigger as well - frame, tinware, wheels, GS swing arm etc. Might end up with GS750 forks & yokes as the originals are shot, plus they are only 'single disc' and there will be 2 at the front, also I can fit GS550 clocks to upset even more purists.....

Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.

Got the engine back - updates with pics here - https://www.kettleclinic.co.uk/kcforum/ ... hp?t=13928
Plus the GS550 wheels are back from the powder coaters - blingy metalflake silver.
Got to sell a couple of the other 550s so I have some garage space to work on the Dunstall......

Re: New winter project
Long time no update on this one, so here it is! - The update I mean!!
Full update here - https://www.kettleclinic.co.uk/kcforum/ ... hp?t=13908
And here's what' happened in the last few days.....
It appears that I may have access to a 'new' frame for Emma.
Right year, looks reasonable condition - nowt that a colour change won't cure anyway - and the current owner seems to want to work at the sale, so sent a £25 deposit & should be able to 'nip' darn sarf-ish next week for a good look and hopefully fetch it back. Whistle see......
Strange how many differences between the M frame & basically all the other models. Pics to follow on that subject sometime.
After a long 10 hour driving day yesterday from home to Worcester, Dudley & back home - mainly at about 50mph due to roadworks most of the way, the frame is home! Also a couple of decent condition GT550 barrels, plus a later NOS type Borg Warner starter clutch, bearings + clutch basket. Frame is much better than the original and is a correct M frame which I thought were extinct. I can get it stripped, checked, then shot blasted & powder coated ready for the build proper.
Might try a different frame & GS550 swing arm colour like silver. Hmmmm. Should be ok to match the 3 disc setup like Earwig, eh?
Just need a pair of nice fork tubes now........
