Re: Part supplier
Depends what you need. I've a garage full of GT550 parts, not far away in Barnsley.
What do you intend doing with the bike?

Re: Part supplier
Hi Just basically strip down to bear frame have that shot blasted and powder coated then rebuild replacing damaged or worn parts
the Vapour blast head etc
one thing i would like to do though is put a new wiring loom on as i have done same sort of restoration on two other bikes and alway try and put new loom/harness on but i have been looking and finding it hard to locate a New loom/Harness for the 1976 GT550

Re: Part supplier
you can buy them new genuine parts from Francos. Not cheap, but perhaps a worthwhile investment if you can afford it.Frogy wrote: one thing i would like to do though is put a new wiring loom on as i have done same sort of restoration on two other bikes and alway try and put new loom/harness on but i have been looking and finding it hard to locate a New loom/Harness for the 1976 GT550

They come in several pieces. This is the front section.

However, this will only replace the main wiring loom and not the individual wires from existing old parts that you may be reusing, such as alternator, clocks, switch-gear etc.
On my own restoration I remade all the wiring connections from every component with new terminals soldered on. So even my old bits of wiring have good contact with practically zero resistance. I also replaced regulator and rectifier with solid state and installed an Accent ignition system (very, very easy to do and a worthwhile mod IMHO).
Good luck with your project.

Re: Part supplier
Depends on the ride you want. 20w50 for a more sporty ride, or 10w40 for a softer one.
Use recommended amount for the type of forks you have.
If they're solid or even too stiff, you've put too much in.
Early forks had more oil in, but they all fit the yokes - even 750 forks as they're the same diameter with heavier springs.

Pick year, model and part area. They're all on there.
