Bimota SB1

Post by robertgpz »

Hi, I´m trying to put together a Bimota SB1 that I have come across in a bunch of boxes. I dont have any data on this bike and I have come to the point where I have to ask for help. I have determined the carbs to be Mikuni VM38´s not sure of SS or SC. Anyway, I´m looking for some data regarding the needles and needle jets. I believe the needle jet is a 247 R-0, but I can´t seem to figured out the marks on the needle as they are worn. Any help here ?? Are these the original parts? What other recommended combinations are there. Thanks.

Welcome. Nice find. SB1 was GS100 4 cylinder and a frame that comes apart in the middle - yes? Or are we talking the 500 race bike. With those carbs it has to be the latter.

#247 needle jets are certainly a Primary (2 stroke) type typically used on things like the YZ250 & 400. I wonder if jetting is the the same as a regular TR500 of the era.

Can you post some pictures please.

Yes the 500 2 stroke is the bike. Right now the bike is in a bunch of boxes. I am pretty sure that the needle jet is a 247 R-0, although there are some marks hust before the R-0 that I really can´t make out. I am looking for needle data and prbably the TR500 data would be similar. Any info would be helpful in sourcing parts.

The SB1 was the TR500 Mk III water cooled race bike built by Bimota:

The Mk III tuning specs should apply here - I think Muzza has them on his site or you can contact Pete O'Dell here on the board as he should be able to give you some tips on setting this engine up.

Please post some pictures of the disassembled machine. Very interested in the details particularly the 6 speed gearbox Suzuki wedged into T500 cases....
