Foldover cable clips on frame

Post by RING_DING »

I am stripping everything off to have the frame powder coated. There are quite a few of these "clips" that are welded to the frame and have a plastic covering. Any suggestions for replacing the plastic covering when I get the frame back?

I searched for "plastic coating dip" and got several leads:

This might be worth a look too. http://www.plastidip.com/home_solutions/Plasti_Dip" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Comes in lots of colours. Black too!!! Available on eBay too, search for "plastic dip spray"

Some companies will coat parts you send them. Can you make a copy of the clip and get it coated then remove it to apply to your frame?

Cheers

You could also straighten out the clip and then spray a little WD40 under the rubber piece using the red straw to get into the end of the cover. Then pull the cover off the metal piece and save it for putting back on once the frame is painted or coated.
This only works if its a solid piece clamp and not the ones with the slot in the middle.
Two strokes, its just that simple.

I've used the 'dip' approach with good success - I keep a can of the liquid electric tape in the shop - works for other things as well:

If at first you don't succeed, just get a bigger hammer !

Another option might be the heat shrink tubing used for covering electrical splices. My local electronics.supply store has it in 4' sections in assorted sizes and colors.
