Thanks for the updates Chris, it's coming along well and looks great! Will you be going back with original 73 paint like on the tank or something different?

I'm going with the 1975 decals but a slightly non original House of Kolor color. I'm hoping it turns out well.

I've been struggling getting the last of my motor work sorted out and was away on vacation for a little while as well. Finally got all the motor parts back but it looks like I have one wrong piston (I posted in the repair thread). Got a lot of other little stuff done. I was hoping to be on the road this fall but at this point it's going to be close. Will try to post a couple pics this week.

I finally have some time to update and finish this thread. Here's a couple of the little details that ate up my time.....

First, my electrical was a mess. Here's a couple before shots:

This photo represents the basic condition of all of the bike when I started...

Here's the after. Note how close the solenoid terminals are to the frame. This is the result of using a '72 panel on my '75 bike. After not being able to come up with a neat way to correct this, I started over again with a '75 panel and solenoid - which is what is on the bike now. I have a pic of that somewhere but can't find it. Bottom line - I refurbished 2 complete panels and harnesses. Oh well...

As I started to finish the bike, it became apparent that a simple clean up of my gauges wasn't going to work after all the other work I did. Here's what they looked like day 1:
gauges_before.jpg
On this I chose to have an expert do the work, so off they went to our own SuzSmokeyAllan. The man is a master craftsman !

The difference is night and day, and was money well spent !

My switch assemblies also looked like garbage and there was no way they were going back on. After a lot of reading here, I took a crack at these myself and they came out pretty nice. The media baster is a big help when doing this kind of work.

And the after. They really look nice on the bike.

Here we are getting close to wrapped up. The Jemco pipes fit very well, and a made a little adapter to allow me to use the centerstand. I added a Newtronic electronic ignition while I was at it - not shown here but it's there under the side cover. Paint is by KNK in Mass.

The couple headlights I had around were too small for all the wiring, so I got a GS850 headlight off eBay. After spending hours cleaning it up, I realized it's smaller across by about an inch. My own stupid mistake. After failing to find a decent GT headlight, I made a couple simple adapters, cut a new hole in at and tried it out. I like the result:

And here she is done...I am very happy with the result but I got a little carried away with my "nice rider" project. Once I had it running, I had the following shake out issues I had to resolve:

- First ride, battery went dead after 20 miles. Caused by bad ground to the rectifier.
- First ride, coolant all over the ground when I got home. Water pump was bad, got a new one from Paul Miller. Should have replaced that day 1- I overlooked it when I reassembled the motor.
- After about 100 miles, front fork came failed (detailed elsewhere on the forum). Unsure of cause, corrected by Frank's Forks at no charge. Been fine ever since.
-Exhaust leaks where the chambers mount. I corrected this with a little red RTV and it's about 99% good now - I'm not getting too crazy with it.

Here are some of the vendors I used:

Paul Miller - I spent about 2 grand will Paul between all the lower end parts, a complete top end, all new brake parts, cables, new rear fender, water pump, gear indicator switch, etc. Had a couple minor communication issues but nothing that would keep me from using him again. He's a great source for this stuff and came through for me.

Bill Bune - did all my motor work. Top notch work, fast and cost effective. Will have more motors going their way in the future.

KNK Cycles - did my paint. Looks great and I get a lot of compliments. Took a while, but I am happy with the price and the results.

Hudson Valley Powdercoat - local powder coater, did my frame and swingarm. Excellent work, great bunch of guys.

"smokey" Allan - did my gauges. The results speak for themselves. Great guy to deal with, I highly recomend - but I don't have to tell you guys that.

What's original from my $400 starting point? The frame, transmission, oil pump, handlebars, fork lowers and internals, gauges, tank and side covers, shocks, headlight ears, wiring and some electrical, and a bunch of smaller stuff.

Finally, thanks to everyone here for your help and support. This project was a year and a half end to end, I never would have made it without this place!

Here's the adapter. I added a rubber stopper at the top when I mounted it to the bike.
jemco.jpg
It's basically a big nut welded to the bracket I made, ground down to match the contour of the frame.
