The uni-filter material seems to have the same porosity as OEM. As far as oiling them, I used 30wt just like the air filter on a lawn mower. The trick is to wring it out carefully to evenly distribute and to not use too much. It just needs to be wetted with oil to catch the dirt particles without being restrictive of air flow. I have had no problems what so ever on my GT500.
