Those that have a Buffalo insured in the States come on in
Guys what are you paying a month to insure your Buffalo in the States ? I understand that people's age, credit, driving record, geographic area all play roles in those premiums. I just want to get an idea. Not including any other bikes, cars, etc. I ask because I currently have 3 bikes insured. Those other bikes have the same hp, are ten years newer, quite smaller in cc's. But are far less expensive to insure. I'm now seeing that the Buffalo gets unfairly categorized being that's it's a 750 cc. But, only having about 50 hp. I understand that insurance companies rate premiums in regard to what cc the bike is. But, come on. That bike is 10 yrs older, 100 pds heavier and the same hp than the other 2 bikes I have insured. That's BS. I'm only paying $12 a month for the Buffalo. But, it kind of erks me that it's more expensive than the other 2. That's only liability insurance on all 3.

The price depends a lot on what kind of coverage you have. Here in Oklahoma, only liability insurance is required to make it legal. I even waive uninsured motorist coverage. I mean what's the point? So for liability only, I just paid $181 for yearly coverage on both bikes. That is with Progressive. I will be getting about half that back now that RedZone has sold. I will cancel that policy as soon as the bike leaves my possession. It is paid for in full but it's still here waiting for the shipper to pick it up.
I was born with nothing and still have most of it left.

Congratulations, on selling the bike. I don't know if that's a good or bad thing in reference to what you told me about no longer being able to ride. Your premium isn't much cheaper than mine. I have the same coverage, For the Buffalo and GS it's about 214. I'd obviously prefer to have full coverage. Being I have so much invested in the Buffalo and with bikes in general a lot a can happen. The largest risk by far on a bike is a motorist running you off the road and not stopping or not realizing for that matter. But, it also doesn't make sense to me to have full coverage on any of my bikes due to their age. But, they're also a lot harder to find parts for. Tio justify owning 4 bikes in current time. I have to keep the insurance down. In a year or 2, I'm gonna decide on selling the 550 or the RZ. That's a very tough decision though. I love them both, lol ! I know you had the tough decision too, I feel for ya buddy. Did you also give up the desire to ride as you got older or had it not been what you told me. You'd still be riding ?

Presently on my CBR900RR and the GSF1200 Bandit in Florida its just under $150.00 for both at Progressive. Thats way cheaper given what I have to pay in Canada per bike. Don't even talk about insuring a bike in Barbados, now thats a totally ridiculous matter altogether.
Two strokes, its just that simple.

Re: Those that have a Buffalo insured in the States come on
Perhaps of some interest (maybe not) here in UK I last paid equivalent of ~$400 US for fully comprehensive insurance on 4 GT triples and a GSX1400, all with free roadside recovery (which I've never used, but nice to know I have it just in case).
The most expensive part is for the modern. Adding one vintage bike cost perhaps $50, and for each additional vintage is was perhaps an extra $30. Comical terms, really, as my GT750A is easily worth 2x the '14!
Cheers,
Mike

Ian cant you get a fleet rate since you have that many bikes in one location.

Re: Those that have a Buffalo insured in the States come on
Eons ago I built a Model A street rod. Took me 6 1/2 years to complete. Started in 86 and finished in 92. Then it was time to insure that puppy. Went around to the usual places (like Farmers, Progressive etc.). The quotes were outrageous. Joined the NHRA and they pointed me in the right direction. In 93 I was paying $400 per year and the car's value (real time) was $20,000. That was about one fourth what the "normal" people wanted. There are companies out there that deal strictly in antique and classic cars. Those companies exist for motorcycles as well.. In a nut shell, it's called agreed value insurance. There are some stipulations you need to meet. You must provide pictures and agree that you will only use the vehicle for special occasions, parades and club meets.. BUT, no one is standing around watching what you are doing or how often you are out and about. I drove the car just like I would drive any other car (except my foot was heavy)
The bottom line is these insurance companies deal only with the oldies and in reality, the risk for them is very low. Consequently, the rates are much lower. The big plus is you can insure your vehicle for it's actual replacement value. If you think your totally restored GT750 J model is worth $15,000 and they agree after reviewing the photos, you can insure it for it's actual value.
So you would think a $15,000 policy would be extremely expensive, but it's not - due mainly to the stipulations you agree to.
Here is an example of just one of many companies that specialize in these types of policies. I'll have to go back through my files to see who it was that insured my street rod. I can't remember. That part of my grey matter has died off.

Re: Those that have a Buffalo insured in the States come on
I have an AmericanCollectors policy. They are reasonable. I never though about putting the Buffalo on there.
But, now that I think about it. It probably won't save me any money. The car I have with them, I'm only insured up to 3k on it and I pay a $100 a year. The Geico policy I have the Buffalo on now, is only liability and it's 143 a year. So, if I put the Buffalo with AmericanCollectors I would want to insure it up to 9k. I can't see how they could give me a reasonable rate insuring it up to that amount and comparing what I pay for the car. But, I can probably get a lot better coverage for about the same amount. I'll have to give them a call. Post a few pics of the car you did, Chris.

Allan..No fleet insurance and yes about $1500 a year for 3 bikes.
The Insurance companies here set the rules with the Government approval .Yet they made a profit on Bike insurance once after everything was paid of $770 million .Not bad at all.
Some would like to see the rules change and open the doors up to USA companies.

ALL insurance - no matter where you live is a RIP-OFF. Don't get me started
What that industry needs is a good shake-down.But that won't ever happen. Too many sticky fingers making huge profits off the hard working common folks like you and me.

I was born with nothing and still have most of it left.
