Suzuki 2 Strokes

Hello all, took the t500 for a run yesterday and after about 30kms, shifting into 2nd from 1st became extremely difficult. i had to put a lot of force into the shifter to get it to shift, normally it pops right in, no problems although I have never been able to get it into neutral while running. Any ideas on what might cause this? i am running standard gear oil at the appropriate levels...

Use engine oil not gear oil. Might be too thick.
Or has yours had the mod done for oil level?

Mine is a 74 model so has the 1400cc capacity. i might have to drain and remeasure...

Sounds like a poorly adjusted clutch. In my experience there's not a lot between drag or slip on the 500 clutch.

Thanks for the replies. would it still be clutch adjustment even though it shifted fine for the first half of the ride? It was not until I was closer to home it started doing it (after the oil was hot). Thanks

It could. I found my newly rebuilt 550B like this - OK cold / cool, but could not go 1st to N or 2nd when stationary, once fully hot. OK if I rolled off and then shifted. I tweaked the clutch pushrod / lifter thing under the outer sprocket cover in a 1/4 turn and ever since, its been fine cold and hot.
