What was going on with that GT750?

Hi Guys,
Curious about this old track bike Suzuki i saw passing me by on a trailer the other day. I am really sure it was a GT750, but the engine outer covers was some how more narrow than normal, anybody who knows what was done, and if this is a common thing?
