Suzuki 2 Strokes

Hi everybody - I'm new to this forum and I have a query about GT750 front mudguards(fenders). I bought what I thought was a front mudguard a while ago to replace the slightly tatty item on my 'A' model. I attempted to fit it yesterday but it wouldn't fit and I soon realised that the fixed centre mounting brackets aren't the same as the old one. They are in fact different lengths, so the mounting holes won't line up. At a glance it looks identical to my existing mudguard, same size, 2 stays, but wrong fixings! As it won't fit my bike I intend selling it but I need to know what bike it WILL fit. I've attached a photo so you'll be able to see the problem. Could it be for a 'J' or 'K model?

Any help gratefully received.

I was under the impression that any front fender will fit either disk or drum fork legs from any year. And then I removed teh front fender off my B model and see that the mounting holes were re-drilled to make it fit. At first I thought it must be a Kawasaki or GS fender, but now I'm starting to wonder.

Wonder no longer! The Suzuki parts list (UK models) shows 4 different versions for the GT750: unfortunately it doesn't show detailed drawings of the brackets.

Looking at that pic i see only one hole for a cable guide,The J model had two,As it had a 4 leading shoe brake,
The K and L models had a single hole,they also had twin stays held on by straps, That had two bolts in each,
The M ands A models had twin stays that were held on by a single invisible bolt,Nice clean lines,
The B model had a single stay.

Apparently the markets are different. In the US, the A model had a single stay and the B model had no stays at all. This is an American B model. Paint is not correct and the seat has been chopped as the bike was too tall for me. But there was no stays or holes for stays.

Just had a look at my drum forks and disc forks (GT550) and the top holes for mudguard mounting are the same distance from the axle on both. So they should fit. The stays are typical to particular models.

You may hava a 'one size (almost) fits all' guard that had been cunningly adjusted by a previous owner.

I'm beginning to think along the same lines. The only trouble is that it doesn't fit my GT750A, and I've no idea what it's supposed to fit now. To make matters worse, I was at the Donington show last Sunday. There were a few kettles there to inspect but I didn't know I was going to have this problem.

I've decided to have my original guard re-chromed. At least I know that it fits! It's off to the platers tomorrow. The offending item can sit in the loft until somebody comes up with the answer. Don't hold your breath.
