The best tank sealer on the market bar none. Never rusts again. Just follow the directions to the T. Most critical is drying after the rinses. I use a heat gun but a hair dryer will work. When you are certain it's dry, dry it some more.

http://www.amazon.com/POR-15-Cycle-Tank ... ank+sealer" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Remove the cap and the petcock. Block off the petcock opening for all the rinse steps. Before putting in the sealer (last step), protect the threads for the petcock. I assume your petcock opening is round. Find a pipe plug that fits and coat it with grease - any kind - even Vaseline. After draining out the excess sealer, inset the plug and snug it up. You can remove it in about 6 hours to aid in drying.
I was born with nothing and still have most of it left.

Hey y'all it's been a bit. The project has been going slowly but surly. Next step for me is the carbs. I refuse to do the cosmetic stuff until I have this thing running like a top. Since I changed over to pods and expansion chambers from titan performance I noticed that the bike has been running hot, which means it's running lean. To richen it up I'm going to switch over to a 120 main jet which the nice gents at Titan Performance recommend. I figured I'd document this adventure here to get help any future beer guzzling home mechanic like myselfs progress.
So I took off the bottom bowl of the carb. As Andrew Dice clay once said "What's in the Bowl Bit@h!"

and saw that I had the round style main jet. It has 97.5 stamped on it
Image
Then I went over to http://www.sudco.com/Carburetor/MikuniCatalogPg30.jpg
And found out that I had the large round type of main jet
I just sent them an email to order a couple in 120.
While I'm on the topic of carburetion (damn you english language..)
The throttle response is very sluggish on this bike. Anyone have any advice for me on this note?
Where can I get throttle and braided brake cables made for this bike? is there a spring in the carbs that
might need replacing so that the throttle returns to closed faster? THANKS!!

Tony....throttle response has possibly been slow, as you have been running way lean. In fact piston meltingly lean, and had you ragged the bike you would probably have found out the hard way.
The 120 main we recommended, is as a place to start....a safe place. You may well be able to reduce that a little, but see how you go. Customers of ours end up keeping the 120 because they thrash the old engines mercilessly without engine damage. If the bike is still sluggish low down, you may well need to go bigger on the pilot too.
If your throttle is slow to close, the first thing I would look at is your cable routing, following that, cable condition.

Copy that, thanks for the info. Luckily the engine is ok, and the problem spotted on some light test riding. I'm changing over the main to 120 today and will let y'all know how it goes

I installed the 120 main jets and cleaned the carbs while I was at it. Slapped them back in and went through the procedure for setting up the carbs in the service manual. The air screws ended about about 2 turns out. Did some testing and the bike runs cooler. Gonna run with this for a while and do some riding :)

Fellas here is the current state of the bike. New Fuel Tank and Oil Tank from Airtech. New Mikuni's, new clip ons, and lots of polishing. Here are some pic's let me know what y'all think. Not done but she's a good rider right now so I'm enjoying her! Next up I need to fix the banjo bolt going to the fuel pump, its stripped at the oil pump and leaking. Re Tap? New Fuel Pump? Also need to mount the tail light and license plate so I don't get pulled over :P.
Here's a video Starting her up

My GT550 suffered that painfully slow return to idle. It's caused by the pilot jets being too small. They can't catch up when you close the throttle. Finally cured it when I got to 3 over on the pilot jets. I was running chambers and pods as well.
Sharp looking ride you have there. Do you have a cushion for that seat? I couldn't make it a mile with my skinny a** on those screws

Hello y'all. Went round and round trying to decide the level of restoration on this bike and finally decided to go down to the frame. Going to continue to document the progress here. So here she is, a Titan with frame with the fat trimmed off!

How about welding in the extra frame brace while you have it stripped Tony.....not really needed for the road in terms of bracing, but balances the look of the bike once you have created that open look in my opinion.

That's the plan! Going to do a curved frame brace like the TR and fab some new mounts for the shocks hopefully this weekend. Will post pics when that happens. For some reason I haven't been able the post pics directly here.
