gt 380 gauge issue

hey guys so as I was cleaning the gauges on my gt380 and have two new lenses cut out for both. I placed one of the new cut lenses into the speedo cup to see how the fit was with the speedo clock. Needless to say I broke the needle on the speedo clock and now im stuck. I've looked around at aftermarket universal fit ones but I would like to keep the stock ones.
Anyone have a spare one around or any hints as to how to fix this??

I did a very similar thing to my 550 gauges not too long ago. But, I scratched one of my gauge face plates. But, since has been replaced. Unfortunately, I see no other option but to buy another set of 750/ 550 / 380 gauges to replace that genuine needle. All the needles are the same on those models. Kinda stinks, that you'll have to pay minimum of 30 or 40 bucks for a ragged set of gauges to obtain that needle. But, I see no other choices. Unless, someone on here has a poor conditioned set and they are willing to spare the needle. It's slightly possible Allan has one. Message him. Piece of advice on the new glass. It doesn't have to fit exact and do not fit it through the top as I'm sure you have learned. Install the new glass beneath the black housing. Then snug the gauges slightly to the bottom of the glass and housing. The glass won't move or go anywhere. Looks much better. Also, eliminates risk of damaging actual gauges. I know exactly what you did, cause I did the same thing.

This is so frustrating. I have a needle. This much I am certain of. I went right to where I knew it was and it's not there. Now I am faced with endless hours of searching, after which I may or may not find it. Dang!

haha

Good luck with your search Coyote! But yes I agree I may need another set of gauges. Original problem was I got flat plexiglass at Home Depot and cut it to fit but the needle would keep touching it when you put the speedo in the cup.

I wonder what's up with that? I replaced the lenses on my GT550 with lexan. I have another set with glass replacements. There are no clearance issues at all on either set. with at least an eighth inch to spare.

The problem is, convex glass is needed. The original acrylic plastic was convex, allowing clearance of the needle.

Nope. Both of mine are dead flat. On the ones I replaced with lexan, I even machined 1/8 off the can faces so the final assembly would be the correct height. The 1/8 lexan I glued on was the full diameter of the can. No issues.

I put flat glass on mine without issue. Maybe too much was taken off the clock surrounds. The original poly face was inset to the surround, so if that was ground off, maybe why it touches the needles.

The lexan was slight bit thicker than stock which could be the reason. Suzukidave I believe that works although I'll have to check dimensions of the stock lenses. Anyone by chance know the stock lens diameter?

Yes, however learn from my many of attempts of wanting the correct exact size. There is no need. I dremeled out my old plastic thinking at first I would put in the exact size of new glass inside the grooves. I gave that correct measurement only to have it shipped to me 3 times not being the measurement I gave to the seller. Just measure beyond the inside of the circular groove about 1/8 of an inch larger to where it will rest on the top perimeter of the white shell. This way there is no need to glue, epoxy, etc. The exact size is not important. Just don't go much larger than that. Once you tighten the nuts on the rear of the gauge. The new glass will not move and is pressed to the bottom of the black housing. It looks better than it being slightly too large or small inside the groove remaining from what you will dremel out.
