Are late model 550/380 side covers compatible ?
I see that Suzuki still sells them. I know the part numbers are the same for both models. But, has anyone ever tried fitting one model onto the other ? I wonder if they come painted ?

Yes, they are truly interchangeable. I have a one of each B model so the black semi-gloss plastic material they come in is just right. They can be painted but I think those still available new are black.

74 - 77 380 and 550 side panels are identical.
I was born with nothing and still have most of it left.

The GT750 side covers also come in a sort of semi shiny black which would need to have some plastic adhesion primer put on them before paint.
Two strokes, its just that simple.

Re: Are late model 550/380 side covers compatible ?
Thank you, gentleman. I would like to see a picture of these covers how they come from Suzuki. Just out of curiosity. If someone would be so kind to post a picture. If they have one available on or off a bike. That the cover has yet to be painted. I'd also like to state that they are pretty reasonably priced considering they are new and at dealer prices. Much better I'd assume than buying a used one or set that the original plastic is near 40 years old. And sometimes not knowing what you are getting buying them used. I think it's fantastic that someone or Suzuki is remanufacturing a lot of these original parts. Only if I had similiar options with a Yamaha I'm working on. Parts being very hard to obtain. Makes you wonder. If Suzuki can remanufacturer side covers and many other parts. Wonder why they don't go as far as to remanufacturer plastic speedometer housings for the 550/380 or other parts for example ? I would say that there is definitely a market for this stuff.

PJ,
The new side covers on my just-finished project as as from Suzuki. I wiped a little soft sheen chemical on them, as used to clean plastic trim inside cars.
Cheers,
Mike
