Replacing T500 headlight brackets
Probably a stupid question, but I'm switching over to a 35/35w h4 bulb and got a new bucket as well (the stock one was pretty rusty) and it's too big to fit in the stock brackets. I'm wondering how to remove them. A friend mentioned that you can take the forks off the frame and slide them out, but that's a pretty big job for me to do by myself, I'd rather somehow get them off with out taking the front end apart. I'm also new here, hello, here's a few pics of the zuki it's a 74

Re: Replacing T500 headlight brackets
The only way to get the headlamp ears off is to take the forks out.
Not a big job really. Get the bike on the centre stand first and make sure it's safe.
Remove the front wheel and mudguard then remove the pinch bolts in the triple tree top and bottom.
You may need to tap (GENTLY!!!) a thin screwdriver or similar in the slots to open them slightly and allow the fork legs to slide out easily.
The fork legs should come out singly so that the headlamp ears can be removed or changed.
Sounds like you've got the wrong headlamp, maybe from a 550 or 750?
Better to get the correct one as a direct replacement - plenty of pattern headlamps on ebay.
The fork legs under the ears will be rusty no doubt, so really will need to be sorted if you mean to fit clip on type brackets for the new headlamp.

Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.

Surely you can just remove the top triple clamp and move it out of the way to slide off the headlamp ears.

+2.....just take off the top yoke, and slide the ears up.
What are you putting on in place? We usually ditch the stock ears to mount clip-on bars, but you will find that the forks are untidy at the top where they have been hidden by the ears for 40 years. A little trick we have used, is to obtain a piece of polished stainless tube with a 34mm ID, cut it to length to account for your clip-on and/or new h/lamp bracket, and slip it over the fork.

Re: Replacing T500 headlight brackets
An H4 headlight from some of GS-series bikes will fit the stock headlight bucket. That's what is on my T500.
Let us know if you are interested in this option.
Am using a 45/45W H4 on my T500 & have no charging problems.
Also, the stock voltage regulator doesn't do that good of a job controlling voltage.
Halogen bulbs run hotter than conventional bulbs. Don't know how tolerant they are to higher voltages.
So its worth considering switching to a modern regulator/rectifier if you haven't done so already.

Re: Replacing T500 headlight brackets
im just trying to switch them out for the clamp on headlight brackets. I got the light as a gift so I cant return it and just want to hook it up. I thought about taking the top yoke off yesterday when i was working on it, but wasnt sure if i had to take off the steering dampener thing. so i guess i'll try to pop the yoke off when i get some time, there's not much to do to it aside from the light and i live in Minnesota so the winter is just beginning and will more than likely go until late may haha. Thanks for the help, i'll keep updating pictures and stuff, everyone loves pictures. Also, i'm sure you've noticed im kind of a newbie when it comes to working on bikes, so i appreciate the help a bunch.
