T500 Coil test

Just got my titan motor back in the frame and got her fired up but its only running on RH cyl.
Has spark on LH cyl with plug out of the motor and turning over slowly with kick

Point gap and time is set but when the motor runs it seems to have no spark on that side

Even with spraying starting fluid with it running into LH cyl, It wont even pop and pipe is stone cold

The LH coil is showing signs of key left on, melted gunk near high tension out and a timing light doesnt show spark on lead when running but does on the other cyl.

Just for the brief time it ran the coil bracket is burning hot to the touch on that side.. Gonna have a blister on my thumb.

Whats the best way to test the coil. I have a multimeter but am unsure of the values.

Thanks!

For specs see page 15 of: http://www.ozebook.com/compendium/suzi/suzidata1.htm
Primary resistance should be about 4 ohms.
Also check for ground -- should get open circuit between primary wire & the coil bracket.

Check for a short in the LH wiring. You may have current when the points are open due to a short.

The ohm readings were all over the place.. No power at the point

Switched HT leads and Point leads around and that cyl started first kick..

Checked all wiring continuity and it all seemed well..

Looks like I need a coil!

Whos got one!? :)

Rex Caunt Racing has new aftermarket coils for around $22 each.
They have a mounting dimension of 80mm & fit the stock coil brackets.

They have these coils with primary resistance of ~2 & ~4 ohms.
Use need the ~ 4 ohm coils.

Also recommend using new plug caps. NGK 5k ohm is a good choice.
Am using NGK LB05F caps on my T500.
