My engine rubber shock mounts are looking a little worn out and I'd like to replace them. Whats the easiest procedure for getting this done?

Hi,mine just prised out with the aid of a flat bladed screw driver,got them out no problems at all ? or if their in really tight,you may need to make up a puller of some kind,thread rod,nuts & washers.Another way would be to drill them out,using extreme caution,not to damage the engine cases!!! Installation,a little rubber grease or something slippery,tap them in square,there is a "flat section" on the edge of the face of the mount,this faces "inwards" when installing...take note as to how they look,before taking the old ones out
The only problem with them is coming to "grips" with the price!!!
But once done you'll won't have to worry for another 30+ years?

I haven't gotten them out yet... I guess my biggest question is does the engine have to be off the frame (or somewhat off) in order to do the job. And if so, whats the easiest way of going about it.

Tricky to do this with the engine in the frame, but perhaps not impossible - you'd need to support the engine, pull the bolts, and then jack up the engine to clear the engine mount lugs about 1 1/2 inches. With the exhaust, carbs, airbox etc off, you should have access. I've only ever done it with the engine completely out of the frame - let's face it - if the mounts are shot, then likely there is other engine work to be done eh ? Also - take a close look at your engine mounting bolts first - you may see that they are worn and have a step in them and so may be in more need of replacing than the bushes.

Looking at this it could possibly be accomplished by doing a few things:
First you will need to remove the pipes and carbs then slacken the chain.
Slacken the engine mount bolts and remove the nuts then place a car jack under the engine.
Let the jack take the weight off the bolts then remove all but the top back bolt. Continue to raise up the engine just enough so it pivots up so the front mounts just clear the brackets, in this location you should be able to get all but the top back rubber mounts out.
Once you have changed the exposed mounts lower back the engine but only put in the top front bolt. Then remove the top rear bolt and jack the engine again to expose the top rear mount. You may have to remove the right side top rear mount bracket as well
This is only an assumption as I've never done it since I've always had engines out when replacing mounts, but it looks possible with this procedure.
If this does indeed work with enough clearance to pull the mounts and reinstall them, let me know.

Hey guys, thanks for the suggestions on changing the engine mounts. I looked into pivoting the engine on one of the bolts but that wasn't going to work because of the clearance between the forward, upper-left mount bracket and the engine case. I ended up rigging the motor as shown in the picture below which worked out great. My coolant hoses were new (soft) enough that I didn't even have to remove those so it ended up being a fairly quick job. Only things that had to come off were the exhausts, airbox, and sprocket cover. I took the bike out for a quick spin and I'm pretty sure the old mounts were the cause of the unwanted vibes. Thanks again for the help! Now to enjoy some of this great fall weather!
