Suzuki 2 Strokes

'74 750.. The last few rides the temp gauge was reading high (just before yellow)

Coolant was a little low so I added some and went for a couple hundred mile ride in which it was right at the beginning of yellow again and even creeping into yellow most of the ride.. I also noticed there wasn't much smoke.. she was HOT.

Unfortunately I had to limp it home and found the clip for oil pump rod broken meaning the oil flow wasn't increasing with throttle..

Fixed it, adjusted oil rod all the way out (max), and she is REALLY smokin now!

I gave it a really hard 20 minute blast and the needle stays in between middle and yellow (3/4) and I couldnt get it any higher.

I read thermostat housing, jugs and radiator with a infrared thermometer and it shows around 180.. Too hot? Too cold?

I really hope shes ok...

Where does your buffalo gauge sit?

Mine typically read between the 1/3 and 1/2 scale. Only very seldom do I ever see anything over the 1/2 mark - when stuck in traffic for example.

Never seen mine go more than a "needle width"over half scale !!
& it does get "hot" here in Summer !!!

perhaps I should try a thermostat..

From what I can remember when I had my 77 GT 750B ( new) it never went over half.
I now own a 74 and this summer on a HOT day it went approx 1 needle with past.
Today on a really cool day it was just below the half again about a needle width

The radiators too can get clogged up if the coolant was allowed to stay in forever or tap water was used instead of distilled water , removing the radiator and flushing with a product like CLR till the bits stop coming out should get it cooling better if thats the problem .

If it ran hot from lack of adequate oil I would suspect scuffed pistons, something made the temps go up.

Ill be honest.. I have some really nasty unsoftened well water that I put in there when I was in a rush to hear it run.. I always planned on flushing it out with distilled and totally forgot until you mentioned it..

I will have to flush radiator with CLR and try a new stat and report back..

Whenever the heck I get around to it.. Too much going on in my garage. hd xr1200, cb750, t500 and the buffalo. all need my attention!
