T500 J Seat Mounts.
I recently bought a 72 T500J for restoration and have it down to the frame. The previous owner appears to have taken a hacksaw to the seat tabs where the bolt slides through on the frame. I sure hope he had a good reason...
Anyhow the bike came with no seat and I ordered one of those replicas from Vietnam on ebay.. $290.. (Nervous about this one.. Hope it goes well)
So my seat wont be here until October and my Powder Coat guy is leaving town. If I want it done I have to do it very soon.
I am just going to weld tabs to the frame, However I need a measurement and don't have a seat to get it.
I just need to know where the hole is in relation to the frame, and how big it is. And then just pray that this replica seat matches up with it.
I would sure hate to have it powder coated and then weld brackets on after. But my powder coat guy is good... and free..
If anyone could help me and possibly send pics I would be very grateful!

I've got one of those!!
If I can work out how to use my wife's camera and you can wait until the weekend, I'll post pics and measurements posting.php?mode=reply&f=2&t=9122#" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: T500 J Seat Mounts.
For cross comparison purposes, I make it to be 32mm as measured from the top of the frame rail, to the top edge of a straight edge laid across the tops of the two upright seat tabs. I can post photos also if needed. And its a bushed 8mm bolt with the two bushes being 28mm OD and 20mm wide and there is a tube spacer fitted between them. They aren't still available but you should be able to find something close.
The reason the tabs or in some cases the bracket on the underside of the seat were removed is to allow the seat to flip up - I've seen a couple modified like this ?

Re: T500 J Seat Mounts.
Thank you Ian and tricky.

Just came out of the garage.. welded these crude tabs on, will have to the cut them down to 32mm (THANKS!!!
)
Never claimed to be a metal worker! Oh well.. its under the seat. Probably wont look to bad powder coated.
I suppose all I need to know now is where is the middle of the hole in relation to the frame and the distance between the two tabs.. I may need to bend as they looked curved on all the pictures I find..
Thanks!!

Re: T500 J Seat Mounts.
Here is a photo of the tabs on mine, with the seat bushes, spacer and bolt fitted. I can get you an inside width measure if you need it, but it just needs to be the same width as the clip on the underside at the front of the seat. The large bushes on either side come almost flush with the top of the tabs.cl4yd0h wrote:I suppose all I need to know now is where is the middle of the hole in relation to the frame and the distance between the two tabs.
Update: distance between the tabs on mine is 11 cm.
Not sure if your bike still has these or not, but this is a photo of the 'top hat' seat bushes that fit into the rubber cushions in the frame at the rear of the seat. On the parts listings they are 09301-08001 and are NLA - neither of my T500's had a full set so I had these made in stainless. I can get you the dimensions if you want to have some made also.

Re: T500 J Seat Mounts.
Does anyone have the dimensions for the "top hat" spacers so that I can make a couple for a GT500 that I've just acquired ? Cheers, Jeff
