Chris,
Glad to hear you figured it out. I can't tell you how often it turns out to be things you absolutely positively know that it cannot be.

Rack mounted carbs often have wear in the pivots and adjusting nuts that make it difficult to get them to open together and to close together. In your case, it sounds more fundamental -and now it's fixed. great result.

I did it the first time. I took it to him to see if he could vacuum balance them. All he did was severly screw them up. I'm surprised it ran at all. No wonder the thing wouldn't idle down. I'm not even sure now that the jets were in fault. Regardless, the carbs are sporting 1 overs now. Air screws are right where they belong now too. 1 1/2 turn out.
