T500 oil pump repair problem

Just disassembled the pump.
Had troubles separating the two parts shown in this pic (see arrows).
Are these two parts supposed to spin freely?
Its hard to get the parts together even without the seal.
Don't know how to fix this. Any ideas?

I took mine apart last week. Yes, those two parts do come apart. Were you able to locate the bottom replacement oil seal? I have been waiting a month for mine from mfg supply and they are still on back order from the manufacturer.

CJF, are the two parts a tight fit or should they spin freely?
Also ordered the bottom oil seal from MFG Supply & got an email that its backordered.
So I ordered one from Amazon, but its now out of stock at that supplier too.
This supplier lists the seal & may have it in stock:

The spindle piece (lower piece you have an arrow to) should spin free inside the piece above. The spindle is the piece that is driven off the gear in the engine and it drives the pump. The top piece does have a tight fit with the pump body itself and shouldn't spin freely against the pump body. Is this what you were asking?

check
http://www.mcmaster.com and see if they have the seal. Usually if it's listed, it's in stock and ready to ship.

I have the two parts figured out.
Next issue is oil seals.
I got the oil seals per:
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=7226&start=26
Top seal is 8x14x4
Bottom seal is 9.5x16x4
Bottom seal on my pump was labels 9.5x16x4. Replacement fits nicely.
Top seal on my pump doesn't have size labeled.
New seal matches spindle piece fine but it just drops into outer part (see upper arrow).
Checked old seal & it has the same loose fit.
Has anyone used a differed top oil seal?

Do you have any more info on seals that worked (brand, part #)?

Wow, thanks for the detailed response.
Am in a similar boat. We had a warm weekend and I was hoping to finish working on the pump. Its cold again & might have to wait till spring.
Ordered the seal from Boca Bearings. Hopefully that works for my pump.
Had purchased a single lip seal. Was fine for the shaft but too loose on the OD. I suspect that is because the seal conforms to DIN seal specs & the pump was made many years before the DIN specs existed. Per what I found on the net, the pump OD (on upper arrow part) is larger than the max defined in the DIN specs.

Double triple rats!
I got the 8x14x4TC seal from BocaBearings. OD does look to be somewhat larger than the single lip seal that I previously tried.
The seal from BocaBearings is also too loose on the OD.
Seal drops into the sleeve (upper arrow part). It falls out when you turn the sleeve over.
Don't know what to do now. Any ideas?
Anyone have a spare sleeve (upper arrow part)?

I ended up ordering one off UK eBay. I haven't receivèd it yet, so can't say if it fits. I also found a honda seal that is the same size. The part number is 91202 vm6 003. You may want to try it.

CJF,
Could you measure the ID where the seal goes on your sleeve (upper arrow part)?
Also could you measure the OD where the seal goes on your shaft (lower arrow part)?
My current thought:
The PO replaced the seal with the wrong one.
The replacement seal was too small to seat properly & ended up spinning which then enlarged the sleeve ID.
Now the correct seal will not seat properly.
Your measurements would help confirm this hypothesis.

You got it....
The od of the shaft where the id of the seal rides is 8.0mm. The id of the upper arrow piece is 14.2mm.
Hope this helps.

My sleeve (upper arrow piece) ID is around .562" or a little under 14.3mm.
The surface doesn't look like it was cast or machined, but looks like it was worn by a loose seal that was spinning.
The first seal I bought has an OD just under 14.2mm. Second seal OD is about .001" smaller than the sleeve ID.
Measure the seal OD when you get it. It might be ok for your pump.

I haven't pulled my old seal out yet, so my measurements were taken from the very top of the piece just above the top lip of the seal. I just measured again and came up with 14.3MM. Keep in mind, this is with a harbor freight caliper

. I can let you know the actual od of the seal once I get it. It's taking for ever to get here.

Bloop found a source for the top seal in Canada that worked for him.
Unfortunately he is no longer a member & we can't get more info from him.
Bought another pump off of eBay. Should show up next week.
Also looking for other seals.
Found a .312" x .562" x .125" seal that might work for me. But it is single lip, has no garter spring & isn't rubber coated on the OD.
At least the Winderosa 8.5x16x4 worked out fine for the bottom seal.
I have a Craftsman dial caliper that's over 20 years old.
