You guys use any kind of sealer on your float bowl gaskets? I'm having some issues on my GS1000.

Coyote,

I have not needed any sealer on my GS1000 carbs. Maybe you've got a warped float bowl or a bit of old gasket left on the carbs? I've got a spare rack of carbs if you need a float bowl or two replaced.....

Thanks Jim. I have a spare set too. I had a local shop put in the DynoJet kit in as I knew it would need tuning after that. No old gaasket was left in and the bowls are not warped or distorted. I did find however that some of the bowl screws (allen) were barely snug. I snugged them all up and appears to have stopped. I'll know tomorrow. There is tell tale on the floor if it is still leaking.

Yep, it's funny how those gaskets take a "set" after the first couple of hours or so. It's a pain to have to go over the screws again but I guess it's all part of the deal.....which reminds me.....I need to go back over the F/B screws on my 650 as soon as the glacier in front of the shed door melts enough for me to get inside.
The big question is....How come the stock gaskets from the factory never needed retightening when the bikes were new ?? :D

Well because they had an army of japanese elves following the float bowls around the assembly line,,,,,

That is truly one of the great mysteries of life.

I found my float bowl leaks were because a PO had stripped at least two of the floatbowl screws on EVERY carb

So I chopped down some small plated nuts & bolts, it looks fine from a few feet away

I added a little Threebond 1104 (only on hand), it works IF you put a reasonable quantity.....'cause a little too much and float gonna stick to the bowl and you see rivers of gasoline coming from the underneath (as ever, dont' ask me how I know this...) :? :?
